Netgear WGT624V3 router
Date of Review: Oct 18, 2007
The Bottom Line: Recommended with firmware upgrade.
It works most of the time with no problems. When it acts up(every couple of days, then rebooting the router usually works. Sometimes nothing works and I just shut everything down for a couple hours and when I return it works normally. I am beyond the warranty period and it took a long time (months) to figure out what was happening. I kept thinking it was my cable modem.
I don't know if there is a conflict between the cable modem (Motorola Surfer) and the router. Interestingly, I can unplug the power to the cable modem and the router works normally. The cable modem also has a telephone line connected to it. Disconnecting the phone line has no effect except that it screws up the whole phone system and I can't get a dial tone.
I didn't have much trouble with the software. Adding other computers to the network is easy if you printed all of the settings and enter them as you run the setup disk on the other machines. Changing a setting is next to impossible. Just start over, it is much easier and faster.
Addendum:
I found that NetGear has a firmware upgrade for this router. After installing it, the router has worked flawlessly. Based upon the firmware upgrade, I now recommend it. My comment regarding changing settings still apply.
