C340 5 Month Report

I purchased the Garmin C340 in April 2006. I travel Ohio and surrounding states making sales calls. I have always carried 80 to 100 regional and county maps and always used them. After about 2 or 3 days of getting used to the Garmin C340 I started using the maps and the Garmin. After about a week I went "solo". Weaning off of maps is not easy. Well now I use the State maps for a general idea of where I want to go and then plug in the address and relax. I now know routes and roads that even the locals don't know and if someone calls and wants to know my ETA I can say "1:27" not maybe "2:00 or about". My 80+ maps are still in the trunk and I haven't used any in 5 1/2 months. You can take a side drive if you want and the Garmin always gets you back on track. Always! Also, the detour button is a life saver. A wreck ahead? No problem. Push the "Detour" button and in 2 seconds you have turned onto side roads and avoided the trouble. Try that out with a map on the fly in a busy city. This technology is really amazing. It marries cutting edge GPS, computer technology, digital voice and touch screens. If you buy a Garmin StreetPilot and don't like it you can always go back to maps or just yell at someone along the road. Maybe you could get a horse and hook it to a buggy too.
