The Magazine Full of Fun, Adventure, and Some Great Entertainment for Kids!

Date of Review: Aug 22, 2008

The Bottom Line:  This is a good magazine for kids, especially younger ones!
National Geographic for Kids Magazine is a great magazine for children (especially younger ones) because it is jammed pack with a lot of fun and games and stuff to do! It will keep your child amused for hours, although I wish it would have some more science facts!

~~~The Contents~~~
Each issue of this magazine will usually hold 3 scientific stories about animals or anything else you can think of. The other departments include the Guinness World Records, Weird but True, Naughty Pets, Cool Inventions, Bet you Didn't Know, The Green List, Video Game Central, Amazing Animals, Fun Stuff, What in the World?, and Just Joking!
Guinness World Records has three amazing records each issue. The Weird but True section is my favorite part of this magazine because I think you learn the most because it tells you facts that you wouldn't think are true! Naughty Pets will give you a picture and a little profile about four different pets that enjoy getting into trouble one way or another. Cool Inventions is also a fun section to look at what amazing technology there is! Bet you Didn't Know is usually similar to Weird but True except that this is all about one topic such as elephants. The Green List shows you some challenges and things to do to make the world greener and also help a given animal. Video Game Central shows you video games that are about a certain topic such as puzzles. Amazing Animals usually has three different animals that are, well, amazing! In between Amazing Animals and Fun Stuff are the three main articles of each issue. Fun Stuff is the opening of the section with games, jokes, and more! What in the World? is a section inside Fun Stuff and it shows pictures and you have to guess what they are. Just Joking holds 5 or 6 jokes and then funny animal pictures that you fill out captions to.
~~~The Advertisements~~~

One thing that I really enjoy about this magazine is that there isn't an ad on every other page your turn! I counted 4 in this entire issue and that is including the one on the very back of the magazine and also one that is just a little column on the far right of a page. And then you also get a few of those subscription reminders, of course!

~~~The Website~~~
Although it isn't advertised very much, this magazine does have a website which is a lot of fun for your child and you can trust it to be safe! There are a couple of the same things as in the magazine, but not really. There are also videos, online games, and much more! This website is kids.nationalgeographic.com and you can also find I right above your address when you get the magazine.
~~~Prices~~~

You can get this magazine ordered for a whole year (10 issues) for only $15! Or you can buy them individually at stores for about $2 an issue. The prices aren't bad for all the fun your kid will have! Children will definitely appreciate your money!

~~~Overall Recommendation~~~
This magazine is fun for kids and there are not many ads which makes it a nice magazine! It is pretty cheap; I just wish that there were more scientific facts and also pictures. My favorite part of National Geographic is the pictures and National Geographic for Kids doesn't have any! The kid you get it for will definitely enjoy it and it will keep them amused for a long time!
