Product Review

Best game of all time

by   discostu420 ,   Jul 27, 2001

Pros:  Best gameplay of any hockey game.......EVER!

Cons:  Not enough injuries, no mario

The Bottom Line:  I recommend it to anyone. It's addicting. You won't be overwhelmed by the graphics (it is a 98 game), but the gameplay will win you over

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

I have owned this game for over three years now and can easily state that this is my favorite game ever. It took me such a long time to get really good at the game. When I first started and played on easy, I realized that it was for children. The medium level is not that bad either, but much more difficult than easy. After playing a full 82 game season on medium, I decided to take the plunge and play on hard goalie, and computer playing ability. That was when I got hooked.
I was near the middle of 11th grade in high school when I started playing this, and I got the worst grades of my life because I was so much more concerned with the game than my school work. I spent my weekends raising hell with my friends and the weekdays, from about 3:00-5:30 (break for dinner and to watch Simpson's reruns) and then again from 7:00-bed (roughly 11:00-12:00). I think I played 5 or 6 82 game seasons from january-june in 1999. As a direct result of this, my grades went down an entire point (from an average of 3.5 to a 2.44 3rd period and a 2.65 4th). I just couldn't help myself because it was the first time I had encountered a hockey game that challenged me so much.
at first, the goalies seemed impossible to beat. But I practiced and practiced until eventually, double digit games were no longer anything to celebrate about. My peak performance was a 37-0 triumph (on hard) over the carolina hurricanes on Sean Burke. I also let up 0 shots, which is an equally challenging feat.
Put simply, this is the most entertaining game I have ever played and I recommend it to anyone. It's easy enough for anybody to win and almost hard enough for even the most accomplished gamer to lose. The graphics and sound are average, but the the gameplay makes up for it so much. I recommended playing single player because I have little experience at multiplayer. By the time I had shown this to my friends, I was so good that they refused to play me at it. But I'm sure it's a good 2 player game. This game is also playable at many various levels of intoxication (unlike mariocart64).
