With the popularity explosion of NFL football in recent years more and more women have become "football widows". Women who spend all day Sunday alone as their husband / boyfriend watches game after game of pro football. What are many doing to fight back? Joining their husbands / boyfriends in watching of this great sport!
To that end, the NFL is releasing and entire line of merchandise directed toward female fans. This replica jersey is a perfect example of that.
Is a replica jersey the right choice?
The first thing you should understand is the type of jersey you are buying. There are really three types of NFL jersey -
Authentic, EQT, and Replica. The
authentic are the highest quality and are the same jersey worn on the field. These go for around $250 each and are worth every penny for some fans. The
EQT are mid quality - essentially a replica jersey with heavy tackle twill letters/numbers. These go for around $100 each.
Replicas are the lowest in quality and price. They normally go around $65 and feature a mesh body, dazzle yoke (aka shiny shoulders) and silk screened letters/numbers/logos.
What is meant by silk screened letter/numbers?
Silk screened means that things like letters and numbers are essentially an iron on transfer. The opposite of this is "tackle twill" which is a method of sewing on multiple layers of heavy cloth...tackle twill lasts as long as the body of the item, silk screening cracks up and breaks off much like a t-shirt that is printed. Jerseys with silk screening should
NEVER be put in a dryer - always air dry them.
Replica jersey advantages:
If you are cost conscious, this is a very nice jersey at the lowest available NFL price. They normally hold up as a shirt very well. This jersey isn't apt to "pick" like the older style cotton jerseys and seams don't fray. I've never had stitching to unravel on this type of jersey.
What's different about a ladies jersey?
Men's jerseys tend to be shaped like barrels. They go straight down from the armpits to the waist like a t-shirt. Know that women tend to be shaped unlike barrels, the NFL has produced the ladies jerseys with a more flattering hourglass cut.
The sizes tend to run a bit small on the ladies version because they are designed to fit a bit tighter than their male styled counterparts.
Why buy a Brian Griese jersey?
I suppose that's a matter of taste, but I will point out a couple of things. Although Brian is considered a pretty solid player and isn't known as a bad guy, he isn't exactly beloved in Denver. He's played for the Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins, and Buccanners but he hasn't been a Bronco since 2002.
Overall:
If you are a casual Broncos fan you'll likely be happier with a Jay Cutler or Rod Smith jersey. These two are much more popular in the Mile High City these days.
If you happen to be a die hard Griese fan or are looking for a bargain this jersey may be just up your alley!
