Author's Review
Back in the day, like in the mid 80's to late 90's, John Madden football by Electronic Arts was synomous with the Best Football Games PERIOD. Point BLANK. But guess what the revolution is over and now Sega has the Football Genre on Lockdown. And this is all thanks to the introduction of NFL2k by Visual Concepts, The New Premiere Football Game and in my epinion, one of the top 10 if not top 5 Sports Games EVER MADE! And that's saying something!
Now what makes this game just so GOOD? Let it put it down like this? It manages to put nearly everything in its Perfect MultipComponent experience, blended with Tight Visuals and DEEP DEEP Gameplay for a Football Game like No Other!
Now let me get to the specific areas of this game that make it the TOP of football genre or in my words let me put it down like this :
#1 Graphics -
The Graphics will make your jaw drop I guarentee it when you see this game running! For example, many people I know that have seen this game at first glance or some at sports bars where this was being played, actually thought this game was a Real Deal NFL Football game!!! ( Like Black Rob, WHOA!!) If that ain't testimony to VC's programming skillz I dont know what is, but suffice to say they know how!
The details on the players is amazing and give this game extreme realism adding to the entire experience adding graphical depth. Some small quibbles may be sideline players are just 2d fillers, but hey you can't have everything and NFL2k1 is out (Future Review Waiting, watch for it in a short time)
This game though has visuals to die for and this game is Definite Eye Candy, but since a Game is not just based on Graphics, this brings me to my next point which is....
#2. Gameplay -
This is where the game truly shines and this is where NFL2k takes the block from Madden and is crowned King. The gameplay is tweaked to near perfection minus the running game ( More on that later)
The passing game for example is dead on spot on with the ability to underthrow, overthrow and lead your receivers which adds depth to the passing game and just makes the game more funner. And what about the jukes and spins? This game has those to to evade and get by defenders for extra yardage making for extra realism. The running game could use some improvement as it is very hard even on easy to pick up large gains, but that problem should be fixed by NFL2k1. The difficutly level can be adjusted so you can tailor the game to your liking, if you want it Easy, Choose Rookie, if you want a full out brawl, choose All-Star.
The multiplayer aspect is another reason to purchase this game. There is nothing more fun than bringing in some of your friends, putting NFL2k in and then having full out NFL2k wars. This is a Blast and gives the game a lot of depth and replayabilty which is a prereq of any Classic Sports Game which NFL2k is!
If I had to give this game a Fun Factor , I would give it a 9 because Nfl2k1 is already out, but if you want a true sports classic then by all means pick this game up Right NOW!
