Product Review

SUPERB, NO-NONSENSE RECEIVER

by   jdg850 ,   Jan 21, 2007

Pros:  More power than rating suggested. Clean interface.

Cons:  No phono pre-amp.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

I purchased this receiver many (many!) years ago. At the time, I compared it with receiver from Yamaha, Sony, and Onkyo. I was looking for a good receiver (price/performance) for a home stereo set-up.

In terms of power (don't be fooled by it's low rating), an outstanding sound (I understand this is subjective but the truth is the truth), clean user interface, and price (approx. $349 new) - the NAD C740 has no equals. Truly an engineering marvel in the audiophile world.

The only negative (or maybe wishful wanting on my part) is that the C740 does not have a phono pre-amp. Those of us who love vinyl need to purchase an after-market unit. NAD does make one, which I purchased ... but thats a review for another day.

Please be aware that this is a receiver for music lovers. It does not have all the bells and whistles of typical A/V units so you might have to look elsewhere for those functions.
