For more than ten years, Alice in Chains has struggled to make a name for themselves. With the release of their much anticipated box set, not only did they please all of their hard-core fans, they also obtained a new crowd of followers. This is not just a typical box set. If you are a true fan of Alice in Chains, I would strongly recommend this album. There are three disks with music on them and the last is a CD rom for the computer. The CD rom contains some interesting facts and a look at some unreleased videos. It is fun to watch once, but you can do without that disc. The disks go in order from start to finish, starting with old unreleased songs running all the way through their last album. One of the best songs on their is the "Again" remix. Not only do you get your favorite songs, you hear new ones that are better then expected and mixes of old favorites. If you are not a true Alice in Chains fan, you may get bored with the box. If you only would like the "popular" Alice in Chains songs that they play on the radio, then you might not want to hear all the old stuff. I belive that this band stands on it's own. It's hard to even compare them to any other heavy metal band. In the late 1980's, the band sounded a little like Guns and Roses. As they progressed, they got their own distinct sound with Layne Staley's amazing range. If you are a true metal fan, I think you will appreciate the musical geniuses of this band. If you just want to "try" Alice in Chains out before investing in the box set, I recommend their album "Dirt." All in all, it is an amazing masterpiece and a must have for any true Alice in Chains fan.
