Murder on the Orient Express [1974]:The Best Christie's Classics on Screen

by   kuuleimomi ,  Mar 17, 2001
Pros: Great actors in a wonderfully set film inspired by Agatha Christie's book
Cons: Maybe you don't like detectives? or, wait, Poirot is a bit unrealistic
The Bottom Line: Murder on a train stuck in snow, 12 passengers to suspect and one detective to solve the puzzle: get your coffee and enjoy a great performance
Review: When I was in the 5th grade almost all of my classmates loved detective stories. It was their favorite book genre. I felt kind of odd enjoying foreign classics and one day I decided to give Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot a chance to impress me....

The Bottom Line: Its a great watch if you like mysteries. A classic mystery movie !!
Review: I watched this movie sometime back on TV. It was such an interesting movie that I could not resist writing a review on it.

"...our capital H"

by   jordan_tar ,  Apr 18, 2000
Pros: Great movie! Lots of fun!
Cons: None
Review: A group of people on a train: a diplomatic couple, an old Russian princess, her maid, a loud American woman, an unpleasant American man, his secretary, a Swedish missionary, an English nanny, a colonel, a cordial Englishman, a congenial Italian salesman,...

I want my own little moustache sleeping mask! Wait, no I don't.

by   jmaslinisahack ,  Mar 22, 2003
Pros: Albert Finney creates one of the most memorable of performances.
Cons: I happen to be a frog, too! Well, half-frog.
The Bottom Line: Another French-hating Brit flick.
Review: One should never, ever underestimate the power of the dreaming mind. I had a dream last night where I made a trip to Barnes & Noble, returned home, placed my purchases on my bookshelf. Then, passing by a short while later, I noticed a thick volume that I...

A Classic Whodunit: Murder on the Orient Express

by   trailhound ,  Aug 23, 2008
Pros: Setting on ornate train. Large, well-know cast. Mystery and intrigue of the plot.
Cons: Slow and plodding at times. Many characters get little screen time.
The Bottom Line: Murder on the Orient Express is an Agatha Christie classic brought to the big screen. It's worth watching, but is rather low-key.
Review: Prolific writer Agatha Christie is best remembered for her crime and detective novels. A few of those books were made into movies, including her 1934 novel Murder on the Orient Express, which was released as a film in 1974. The movie features a ...

Murder on the Orient Express: Over-Baked Agatha Christie

by   Grouch , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  Nov 7, 2006
Pros: Ingrid Bergman and Lauren Bacall make the screen sizzle and pop; production design is gorgeous
Cons: The whole thing is a lumbering, crushing bore.
The Bottom Line: The DVD has some nice extras--a loving profile of Christie by her grandson, and extensive making-of featurette (be warned: there are spoilers!)
Review: I don't wish to pick a bone with Dame Agatha Christie, but Sidney Lumet's 1974 Murder on the Orient Express is not the best cinematic treatment of one of her novels. According to rumor, legend or full-bore press agent hype, the all-star ...
