This product contains the same active ingredient as the good ol' stuff you used to take as a kid, Robitussin DM, without the unnecessary suppresant.

I have asthma and have generally taken this when getting over a virus, and the only symptom remaining is the residual crap in my chest (you asthmatics know what I'm talking about). It has always worked great for me. My coughs become more productive; as a result my breathing improves.

For what it is, it is quite effective. Do not buy this expecting your coughs to go away- it does not contain a suppressant (as does the aforementioned 'Tussin DM). Do not buy this expecting your head to clear- it doesn't contain a decongestant either. And if you break out in a rash while on it- stop taking it immediately. You'd think all of the above would be common sense, but I guess for those who overmedicate with things like "nightquil" so much that they're immune, it's not.

Honestly the only people that probably ever need by Guaifenesin by itself are asthmatics and smokers (tsk, tsk, you need to stop). For the general population, another remedy might be better for you.

Mucinex is overpriced, and some places don't have a cheaper brand available in extended release format. But many at least have a generic version of the regular, so if you don't mind popping a pill every 4 hours you can save great deal of money.
