Mr. Smith, all-American hero

I first saw this movie in my high school government class, and I thought it was sooooo boring.

Then, I saw it one night on TV when I was in college, a time when I started getting really interested in history and politics. My eyes were glued to the screen...I absolutely loved it!

Not only does this movie give us a pretty good picture of how the Congress operates, circa 1930 of course, but it also brings up issues we still deal with today ... politicians who "sell-out" (more to special interests than political machines today!), disillusionment with the political process, how power can corrupt, etc. are all explored somewhat in this movie.

While the plot is somewhat predictable, I thought it was pretty inspiring. The character of Mr. Smith had a lot of courage that many politicans seem to lack, in my opinion, today.

This is definitely a movie worth seeing at least once, but it's probably a movie you'll want to watch by yourself...not a great date or friend movie.
