Author's Review
I've been using these radios at my work (8 screen movie theater)for two years now (same batteries, even). We used to have poor quality consumer grade radios, and while clear, just weren't loud enough. We decided to go with the XU2600 because our sister theater were using them and found them indispensable. In crowd control situations they're loud enough to hear over any yelling, and in the projection booth they can be heard over the (rather noisy) projectors, even from the hip. These are well engineered devices with little touches that really help, like a swiveling belt clip, the upwards catch on the clip to prevent it from getting pulled out of your pocket, and two "quick channel" buttons, to swap between two preset, programmable channels. They've been dropped multiple times from 12+ feet on to concrete, doused with soda, grime, etc and work as well today as they did when we bought them. Comes with a charger and battery that lasts 1.5-2 days with occasional (20 min a day) talk time. Louder than consumer grade radios, suitable for areas with higher than office noise levels. Belt clips are fantasitc. If you hated belt clips before, you'll learn to love them with this model. Removable faceplate. Handy for painting to differentiate between. Maybe not loud enough for the most extreme environments like a machine shop operator with earplugs in. Battery doesn't last a full two days between charges. Battery charger cradle only charges one battery at a time (although radio can be used on charger).
This radio seems to work at least two city blocks away... not sure if it goes further, that's about as far as you can walk on your lunch break! Finally, these radios are about 30% heavier than consumer radios, but that's in part due to the larger battery, and much heavier duty construction and ruggedness. Motorola makes fantastic professional grade radios, and you're paying for a radio that will last you three years or more without any residual costs.
