Motorola MD681 5.8 GHz 1-Line Cordless Phone

I purchased this phone on the advice of a friend, who has the same model. After 1 year and 3 months of ownership (conveniently just past the manufacturer's warranty), the phone became incapable of making or receiving calls. Although I only had the handset that comes with the phone, the base and handset started telling me there was an extension handset and parallel line in use. I tried everything on Motorola's troubleshooting website as well as advice from technical support. Of course this happened on a Sat. morning and Motorola didn't respond to my email service request, so I had to wait until Mon am just to speak with someone who had no better advice than to unplug the phone and plug it back in. When I spoke to the supervisor, he basically said it was tough luck as Motorola was not going to do anything, including any repair option for this product. My only option was to purchase another phone. Needless to say, it won't be a Motorola because they don't stand behind their products. In 30 years of I've never had a phone that new just break on me. I've had numerous non-Motorola phones that have lasted for years without incident.
