Motorola H700 Wireless Bluetooth Headset works great for me!
Date of Review: Mar 4, 2007
The Bottom Line: Decent headset that works well for me.
I'm one of those cell-phone talkers when I'm driving and its a seriously bad habit (not to mention illegal) so since going to a phone with bluetooth (the
Sanyo Katana) I'm making more of an effort to break that habit. My first attempt at a bluetooth headset was with the
Jabra BT160 which didn't work out. So back to the Sprint store I went where they exchanged it for the
Motorola H700.
The Fit I learned the hard way that one size fits most isn't really the case with these headsets. I tried on no less than 10 different headsets that day to find one that fit my ear comfortably without feeling like it was going to fall off, and this is what I went home with. I'm convinced that most of the Bluetooth devices out there are designed for men, since my husband has no problem with the fit. This was the only one that I could find that wasn't going to fall off of my ear and I can get a relatively tight but still comfortable fit. I wear it on my left side so I had to switch the over the ear hook to the other side to reverse it (it comes default for right, but with my tragus piercing I can't wear anything on that side).
Good Stuff One thing that I really like about the H700 is that its very small. With the microphone flipped out it is just 2.5 x 2.2 x 0.75 inches and weighs just 3.2 ounces. The microphone folds in making it even tinier when not in use. I keep mine in a small pocket of my purse and it takes up no space at all. The flip microphone design is nice because when you open it it automatically turns it on, and closing it automatically shuts it off.
Initial setup for this phone includes charging it (with the included charger) for 2 hours. After that it recharges in about an hour. You'll know its charged because the button changes colors from red to green. While you are on a call it glows a light blue. Pairing it with my Katana phone was seamless and consisted of just holding the 2 devices close to each other. Now, anytime I flip my H700 open my phone recognizes an incoming request, I accept it - and we're all set. There's a single button on thr H700 which I press to begin or end calls. I find it relatively idiot proof, which I need.
The H700 has 6 hours of talktime or 130 hours on standby before it needs recharging. This is more than adequate for my daily needs. I usually have my phone in my purse or nearby in my vehicle and the headset on have had no range problems. It can actually go up to 10 meters (30 feet) which I've not tested, but I have been maybe 10 feet away with no troubles. My calls with this headset are clear, and people I'm calling also say they hear me fine too without a lot of background noise. If they didn't know I was on the headset they'd assume I was holding my phone the old-fashioned way. The H700 has a good default volume on it but you can adjust the volume by using the button on the top of the unit.
Not so Good Stuff Price on this headset varies. The retail price is $100 and some carriers (like my Sprint store) actually charge that. I got it on an exchange so I didn't pay that, thankfully. I've found it online closer to $35-$50 which is "more like it".
I think this should come with some sort of storage case for when its not in use, but it doesn't. I toss mine in my purse and am afraid it may get damaged.
The way the microphone flips out means that it is perilously close to your face/jaw when you are wearing it. If it does graze against your cheek it will definitely affect the sound quality that people hear when they are speaking to you. On a few occasions I've had people tell me I was muffled and I realized it just had to do with how the mic piece was laying. Now that I know how to wear it so it stays put, is comfortable and isn't touching - my call quality is great.
Overall I'm very pleased with this bluetooth headset and will continue to use it as much as I can so that I can enjoy hands-free conversations and drive safely.
