Product Review

Great product, if it ALWAYS worked with my Chocolate.

by   marble03 ,   Feb 11, 2007

Pros:  User friendly, color indicators, great talk time, and fits perfectly

Cons:  Not compatible with LG Chocolate phone and sometimes static sounding

The Bottom Line:  I recommend to anyone. It's very user friendly, has great talk time, and works great overall.

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

Author's Review

The Motorola H700 Headset is the first Bluetooth headset I've owned. I bought it because I have 3 friends that have it and said that they absolutely loved it. They use theirs with Blackberrys. I bought it mainly for my LG Chocolate VX-8500.

In the box, there is the headset and a AC charger.

What I like most:
PAIRING: The pairing couldn't have been easier. The instructions that came with the headset were excellent. It probably took me less than a minute to pair.

COLOR INDICATOR: There is a color indicator that will turn red, yellow, green, purple and blue. The Red = it's less than 80% charged, Yellow = more than 80% charged, Green = charging complete, Purple = ready for pairing, and Blue = working. Colors are always good indicators of what's going on. I'm all for it.

ON/OFF: It's so easy to turn on and off the headset. All you do is close the boom mic. I close it and my phone recognizes that I turned the headset off and disconnects. When I open the boom mic, my phone recognizes that the headset has been turned on and it connects.

FIT: The headset fits perfectly on my ear. It feels very secure, I get scared easily and I know if I jump it will not fall off. I shake my head side to side and it won't fall off no matter how hard I shake it. I even bend over to tie my shoes and it doesn't even feel close to coming off.

BUTTONS: Buttons are easy to find and generously large. The volume buttons are easy to find. Easy to answer a call and hang up. I love the mute function (push both volume buttons).

TONES: There are audio tones that sound. It's hard to remember what each tone means. I have to keep the instructions handy to figure out what it means. However, any tone that tells me it's about to die is a good tone.

REDIAL: If I hold down the main button, the headset calls the last dialed.

DISTANCE: I can go really far with the headset, I live in a 900sq ft apartment. I can walk around past walls and still be able to talk. There is a lot of static but I can still make out what people are saying and they can still hear me.

TALK TIME: I can out talk anyone on a phone, when it comes to talk time I know all about it. The manual says it gets 6 hours talk time, but I feel like I get a little more than that. I probably charge it every other day and do it just because I'm paranoid and not so much that I'm running out of juice. I had its battery completely drain on me twice, however both times I did talk the full 6 hours (not consecutively) but had the audio tones warn me it was about to die. It gave me ample time to switch over to handset.

What I like least:
SOUND QUALITY: Although, I can hear everyone clearly and people can hear me clearly, most people complain of an echo and/or that I'm screaming. I'm not a loud or soft spoken person. I would rather have people hear me screaming than asking me what I'm saying because they can't hear me.

INTERFERENCE: I'm not sure if the range of bluetooth technology overlaps with microwave signals, but when I turn on the microwave and stand as far back from the microwave my headset still has a lot of static crackles.

COMPUTER CABLE: I wish there was a USB cable charger. I'm always on the go and always near a USB.

DOESN'T VIBRATE: I've seen some bluetooth headsets vibrate, I think that's a neat feature to have. I would like to have seen it on this model, but I guess beggers can't be choosers.

MAJOR ISSUE I'M HAVING: When the bluetooth works, it works as great as it can. However, I'm having issues that sometimes my phone shows that the bluetooth headset is connected but no sound is going in or coming out of the headset. This is annoying because sometimes I get a call and I answer, and I don't hear anyone and no one hears me. I have to switch to the handset and disconnect my bluetooth (drop the signal from my phone because just turning the headset on or off doesn't work) and either try to reconnect or call my caller back when I finally get the headset to talk to my phone. I thought it was just because my headset was faulty, I went back to the Verizon store and they exchanged my headset for another Motorola H700, but it still does the same thing. The guy at the Verizon store said a lot of people complain about their Bluetooth headset not working well with the LG Chocolate VX-8500 and he recommends I buy an LG brand bluetooth headset to brand match my phone.

I really like the Motorola H700 Headset, but I don't like the problem it is having with my Chocolate phone. My friends do not have that problem and say that they love their Motorola H700 just as well. Unfortunately I think I will return my headset for one that I don't have to figure out if it's really connected. I think the problem doesn't exist with the headset, but with my phone's compatibility .
