Author's Review
Fact-based and no pulled punches.
That was the promise of Motorcycle Consumer News when it began its run in the early 90's, and they've kept their promise with fact-filled articles each month.
With no advertisers to keep soothed, MCN is able to publish the straight skinny each month. Especially powerful are their comparison tests, where they assemble several motorcycles or products of a category to rate and rank them. Recent issues have included mid-sized cruiser bikes, and full-sized touring bikes, both extremely popular with current buyers. Timely reporting seems to be their forte.
MCN has created so many oft-quoted articles, perhaps none more so than their "Motorcycle Oils" comparison of a few years ago. They enlisted the services of a SoCal university testing lab to explore the differences between $6 a quart motorcycle-branded oil, versus $1.50 auto oils. They found few, if any.
Former editor, now editor-at-large Fred Rau is a fixture in touring circles, and writes a great column each month.
Along with a recap of industry news, and the occasional opinion piece regarding motorcycling issues, MCN provides great reading each month.
Expensive at $41 per year, savvy riders can take advantage of "show specials" when MCN has a booth at Americade, Honda Hoot, or other national events.
Consider it a "must-read".
