Author's Review
If you've read my Epinion on Captain Planet, you know I'm all for conserving and saving our environment. I think Captain Planet would subscribe to Mother Earth News. This magazine is one of my favorite magazines in publication.
Mother Earth News is a magazine that not only tries to show us ways to help our environment, it shows us how to go back to our roots. This magazine could be published in the old west with some of the articles it has. I've seen articles on how to make your own shoes. There is always a great gardening section, on how to grow things organically and naturally. An old fashioned seed swap is a wonderful feature in every issue. You simply send in seeds you need and seeds you are willing to trade.
In the most recent issue I have read, there are two fascinating articles that stick out in my mind. The first one is about living in Mexico. It tells not only the property laws, but also how the people live off of the land. The second article, my favorite, is about paper houses, that's right, paper! Actually a combination of paper and concrete called papercrete. It has a whole do it yourself section telling you how to make your paper house. The article even tells you how to make a mixer to mix your papercrete.
Mother Earth News also ventures into the twentieth century (almost 21st!). There are great stories and adds on alternative energy sources. I read the neatest article in a past issue about a car powered by only canola oil. The people stopped at fast food joints to get old grease to run the car, they said the exhaust smelled like french fries.
I can't say enough about this great little magazine. It is truly fascinating. So even if you aren't Captain Planet or a faithful Planeteer, you like this magazine. If you ever wanted to get back to a simpler life, this magazine is your guide to getting you there.
So for the innovative, old fashioned, and even odd, Mother Earth News is your source. It's a great magazine, check it out, you'll like it; I promise. My only problem with Mother Earth news is it only published every other month. I wish it were at least monthly.
Also remember folks, April 22 is Earth day. This year it falls on a Saturday (two days away as I'm writing this). Get out there this Earth day and clean up your neighborhood, recycle, or do whatever to make this a safer cleaner world; not only on earth day but every day. Thank you.
