Author's Review
Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe
Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe is a game that is made for Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. It has been out for quite a while, and I'm going to do my best to describe it to those people unsure about buying it. Once you are finished reading this review leave comments please on what you think of my review or maybe what you think about the game itself or if I have helped you at all.
To start off, if you are a Mortal Kombat freak, and are unsure about getting this then you are missing out. It is a great game and includes the best Mortal Kombat characters. The characters from Mortal Kombat are: Baraka, Jax, Kano, Kitana, Liu Kang, Raiden, Scorpian, Shang Tsung, Shao Kahn, Sonya Blade, and Sub-zero.
If you love anything to do with DC comics or are interested in any of the DC characters mentioned, then you shouldn't have to think twice before getting this game. If you don't like Mortal Kombat, you will still love this game because DC Universe is a big part of the game. DC Universe characters are: Batman, Captain Marvel, Catwoman, Darkseid, Deathstroke, Green Lantern, Lex Luthor, Superman, The Flash, The Joker, and Wonder Woman.
Story Mode. 7/10
Story Mode is a great place to begin your Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe experience. In Story Mode, you have to pick a side: either DC Universe, or Mortal Kombat. In order to beat the game you have to complete both. I will not explain the story line, because I will not give anything away. Story Mode is a decent place to start because you get used to the characters, and how good you are with moving and attacking with them. Story Mode also gets you involved with the story of the characters, and why their battling each other. It will hopefully get you more attached to the actual game.
Although the game has a decent story, it actually goes by very fast and is sadly very quick and easy to beat, which is my complaint about it. As I mentioned, it starts off with you choosing your side. They are both pretty fun and easy, but it gets hard when you have to fight with a character you're not really good at using. For example if you are used to fighting with Jax, and have to fight using Sub-Zero, it gets pretty frustrating.
In this section of the game it is split up into chapters. There is a certain number of chapters for each side. Each chapter in the game give you a different character. For example, off the top of my head Sub-Zero is chapter 4 in Mortal Kombat. In every chapter there is a brief story about each character. Each character fights about 3 to 4 characters in every chapter, and there is a story for why each character is fighting. About half the fights that go on have to do with the "rage" in the game. The rage is this system that goes through the characters bodies that make them want to kill anybody in sight. The rage is caused by one of the villains in the game, but I don't want to give anything away J .
Arcade and Practice Mode 9/10
Arcade mode is a good way to increase you're ability before playing on live, or maybe just to increase your characters ability. Arcade mode is pretty much the same as the other Mortal Kombat games, (and the old arcade version IN the arcade), where you pick your favorite character and you verse a line of enemies. The main difference in this Arcade version is that you can pick whether the characters you're playing are from Mortal Kombat or from Dc Universe, or mixed. At the end of the arcade mode you verse the lead bad guy, and it may take some time before you can beat him. It took me two times, but without bragging, I'm sort of an expert at the game.
Practice mode is pretty much the same as any other practice version of any other battling game. In practice mode you pick the character your practicing with, and the person that your playing. Practice mode is the BEST place to start in this game. Practice mode gets you started learning all the characters, and how their moves work. Especially if you've never played Mortal Kombat or worked with DC characters in your life. Even me who never stops playing Mortal Kombat goes to Practice mode every time I open one of the games. Practice mode is a great place to learn combo's, special moves, or extra items on them. (For example Deathstroke's sword).
Graphics and Sound. 10/10
Graphics are amazing as usual on an Xbox 360, or Ps3. Not that I am an expert on Graphics or Sound, but I'll tell you one thing: They are both pretty amazing to me!
Characters 6/10
The characters are pretty amazing, and look brilliant. There is something unique about every character in this game. My only concern with the characters is that it doesn't have all the best characters such as Ermac. Ermac was my favorite character in the Mortal Kombat games, but he's not there. I am no expert at DC comics either, but if you are you maybe be a little disappointed because they left out plenty of DC characters I'm sure.
The fortunate thing about the characters is that although there probably should possibly be more, but the ones that they did include they did a great job with. Not only do they look great, but they set the characters up just like it was in the comics (DC) or past games (MK). The moves and attachments are amazing, and they did a great job with a character like Lex Luthor. Lex had a suit in the comics, and they made a suit for him in the game and its actually quite amazing, and is similar to Jax suit in the game (which is also amazing). If you would like to see pictures, you can either go to Google Images, or just comment me and I would be more then glad to send you a few.
Live 9/10
Whether it be xbox or Ps3, live is pretty fun. You pick your character and vs. somebody that also has live. There are actually a decent amount of people who play live, and some are pretty amazing. No matter how good you are at these games, if you go and play on live without any type of practice, I'm sorry to say that you are no doubt going down! Haha!!
Even to this day there are people who beat me on live. A lot of people work with characters for a long time, and eventually get pretty good at the game. They will do amazing combos, so the most important thing to do in this entire game is to learn how to block at the right time. That is very important in any section of this game. What I did was, I played practice, and beat the game, and then went to live and started beating people. It actually gets pretty envolved, fun, and frustrating all at the same time!
Coming to a finish
This is a pretty decent game, and if you add all my ratings, this game gets a 41/50 which is a very decent score. The game becomes very addicting, and is no doubt worth going out and buying. I still play it, and it came out in November last year!! Get it, it will not be a disappointment, I will tell you that!
