Product Review

Adrian Monk. The obsessive compulsive detective with Sherlock Holmes like detective skills.

by   yoopers3 ,   Mar 23, 2007

Pros:  Funny, good writing, good acting.

Cons:  The sound or lack there of on the bonus features.

The Bottom Line:  I definitely recommend this DVD for any Monk fan or if you like mystery and comedy! Despite all the murders Monk has to deal with--this show is always funny.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

This series stars, Emmy winner Tony Shalhoub; Bitty Schram, Ted Levine and Jason Gray-Stanford. Sharona’s son Benjy is a different actor on the pilot and is then replaced by Max Morrow in later episodes.

Monk’s phobias sometimes hinders his ability to catch the bad guy. He let the bad guy get away because he climbed up to the roof of a building and because Monk is afraid of heights he couldn’t follow him. But the bad guy still gets caught at the end, because it doesn’t hinders Monk’s investigative skills.

After Monk’s wife, Trudy, was killed by car bomb. Captain Stottlemeyer hires Sharona Fleming, a nurse to look after Monk. The chemistry between Monk and Sharona isn’t a romantic chemistry, but acting chemistry. The two of them play off each other very well.

Captain Leland Stottlemeyer and Lt. Randy Disher are secondary characters but are an addition to the series.

In the pilot episode, Mr. Monk and the Candidate, we learn Sharona enjoys the adventures she’s having while being Monk’s nurse. Sharona goes off on her own, to catch the bad guy and Monk follows her to save her, taking Randy’s gun with him.

In Mr. Monk takes a Vacation, Sharona and Benjy take a vacation with Monk. Where Benjy witnesses a murder in one of the hotel rooms. Nobody believes Benjy because the room is perfectly clean, but Monk believes him and continues to investigate the murder along with the hotel detective; Detective Browin. Who’s only detective experience comes from watching movies. She is a good addition to this episode and has great chemistry with Tony Shalhoub, I wish they would have brought her back on more episodes

In the season finale, Mr. Monk and the Airplane Sharona and Monk go visit Sharona’s aunt in New Jersey. The only way to get there is by flying.

The flight attendant that can’t handle all of Monk’s antics is played by his real life wife, Brooke Adams.

Garry Marshall plays an unforgettable character sitting next to Monk on the plane. Warren Beech an extension cord salesman. “If it doesn’t reach call Warren Beech.” He’s pushing a new cord, “The Anaconda!”

Monk suspects that a passenger killed his wife, he just needs to prove it.

Sharona: He always thinks people are killing each other.

Monk: And I’ll tell you why... Because they are.

The only problem with this DVD are the bonus features, I don’t know if they’ve fixed this problem since I bought my copy, but the sound is terrible and can’t be played on any DVD player. According to Amazon this is a manufacturer's defect so it might have been fixed by now.
