deserves a close look

I was not initially interested in this vehicle. I then saw a add for a LS FWD in the paper for $19,995. The wife and I test drove it and we were hooked.
I think it looks good but at certain angles at has some awkward proportions. The body panel gaps are a little wide in spots and the paint has a bit of orange peel. The standard 17" aluminum wheels are attractive. The standard Goodyear integrity tires are not the best for wear or snow traction.
The interior is attractive and solidly built. One of the highpoints to SUV's is the commanding high seating position. There is plenty of leg room in front. The rear has an exceptional amount of leg room. Great for car seats. The rear seat is a little hard. The interior panels fit well and there are no visible gaps. I like silver center stack and the ice blue lighting. The seats have are plain Jane but are surprisingly comfortable even on long trips. The standard stereo w/6 speakers and 140 watts has good sound and power, better than most standard sys. The shiftable trans is more of a novelty. I don't really use it because it’s slow to react to input. It’s great for starting off in 2nd gear in snow. The rear cargo area is more than big enough for every day use. If you need more room get a pick-up or van. The flip-up rear window is very handy.
The driving experience is an enjoyable one and it’s what sold me. The engine has enough power to move this SUV fairly effortlessly. When its time to smoke someone at stoplight that’s always fun. The all important freeway drive is also an enjoyable one. Vehicle stability is key to an enjoyable freeway ride and this SUV is very stable and cruises nicely at 80. I really like the steering. It’s nicely weighted, responsive and has a solidly connected feel. The 4-wheel disk brakes also have a nice feel to them. They have dual piston calipers up front (most have single) and really grab when you want them to. One point on the brakes they don't come standard with ABS. I almost didn't buy it because of this. The good overall braking performance helped sway my decision. The gas mileage is about 17.5 average over 20 on the hwy.
I have had this SUV for 2 yrs now 24,000 mile) and not one problem. I am still happy with it. For The amount I paid I feel that I got a lot for my money. I would recommend it to someone looking for a SUV.
