If you know exactly what I'm talking about odds are you either have one, use to or wanted to. If you are still in state of shock this article has only begun!

At first glance she looks as sexy as a ferrari with her aggressive vents and gorgeous lines. Press the clutch and turn the key and her deep baritone rumble will just scream for you to take her for a flight. Throw her in first and let's go! Once on the highway open her up passed 3000 RPMs. She viciously jolts forward pressing you into the seat as her turbos kick in. The roar of the exhaust is enough to send shivers down your spine and intimidate those you fly by. This isn't just a Mitsubishi... this is the Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4.

Since it's debut in 1991 the 3000GT VR4 has gained the respect of many sports car enthusiasts while still remaining mysterous and unknown to the majority of the auto world. By far, the 3000GT VR4 is the most under rated high performance sports cars of all time. It's finally about time to shed some light on the Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4...

The 3000GT VR4 delivers a hard hitting engine that spins all 4 wheels. Take it to the track and the beast is capable of running mid 13's with a 0-60 time of 4.8 seconds and an achievable top speed of over 160 MPH. Did I mention pure stock? On the road handling curves and turns will be no problem at all with it's full time All Wheel Drive and 4 wheel steering (initiates after 30 MPH) system. Stock alone, this car offers impressive performance but with all high performance cars comes the need for more speed. The engine is full of potenial and capable of making 800 horsepower modified. Currently the fastest 3000GT VR4 in the US runs a 10.75 which is faster than the worlds fastest production car by a half second, the Maclaren F1.

Adding more horsepower can get quite expensive as we all know. However with the VR4 you can add an additional 45 more horsepower cheaply by just installing an open Air Filter, Gutted Cat, Downpipe and installing a Manual Boost Controller with an aftermarket Boost Gauge to up the turbos to 14-15 PSI (Safe max for the stock 9b turbos!) with less than $400.

Mitsubishi treated their VR4 owners to high performance and now spoiled them with the luxury interior features they deserve. The leather seats make you feel right at home or perhaps someone elses much more nicer home! With a touch of a button you can adjust your seats tilt up/down, forward/backward and recline positions. You can even adjust the width of the seat to make the side braces hug your body as you cruise on down the highway. Don't worry about the pain of readjusting the seats whenever you have to move them to get into the back. These cars have a built in memory feature.

Are you cold? Are you hot? With the digital display you can control the EXACT temperature inside the cabin with the VR4's automatic climate control system among other digital features.

Drivers can enjoy an Infiniti audio system with a built in CD player and premium quality sound. Imagine a car audio system with equalizer adjustments that are found on a home stereo system! A panel is dedicated to customizing that premium sound you wish to come out of your speakers!

Although the 3000GT VR4 has a back seat it is mainly for show, storage and insurance purposes since it can be very tight. Cargo space is also at a minimum but compared to any sports car in it's class the 3000GT VR4 gives you more than enough space neccessary.

Once you sit down in a 3000GT VR4 you will immediatly know why GT stands for Grand Touring.

Mitsubishi knew that not only did the 3000GT VR4 have to be luxurious and powerful but it also had to be safe in all driving conditions. If weather causes slippery road surfaces the AWD/AWS/ABS of the VR4 will get you home safely and smoothly. If it's foggy out the fog lights will lead your way. If it's cold out the heated mirrors and windows will prevent them from fogging up. If it's raining you are always guranteed to see out that rear window. The 3000GT VR4 has Active Aero components. When turned on the rear spoiler will move to a position where more downforce will be applied at higher speeds. The front air dam also moves as well. The Active Exhaust system has 2 settings Tour and Sport. Below 3000 RPMs the exhaust note will be more subtle and soft for your every day touring. When the car exceeds 3000 RPMs the exhaust opens up and lets out a loud rumble for sport driving. The Electronically Controlled Suspension can automatically adjust your suspensions stiffness to the road surface to ensure maximum performance out of your ride. Although some may say these technological gadgets are useless each have it's own proven use and purpose.


FUEL ECONOMY

The 3000GT VR4 demands higher octane Premium fuel to run. Typically a full fill up can cost you anywheres between $30-$35 from an empty tank. On a full tank approximatly 350-400 highway miles can be achieved although this greatly depends on the driver. City driving tends to eat up gas more rapidly. 18/24 mpg city/highway. 19.8 gallon capacity.


RELIABILITY

The 3000GT VR4 has been shot down for reliability in the past. Truth is, it IS a reliable car when you take care of it. Just like any other car out there. Unfortunatly, many people abuse their VR4's or modify them without knowing what they are doing. Only then will the VR4 let you down. And the cost is NOT cheap! So please take care of your car!
