Product Review

Why Spend more for a TOMTOM ONE?

by   macanudo1967 ,   Jan 25, 2008

Pros:  Price, quality, ease of use, accuracy of maps, look, size of screen

Cons:  Low volume sound.

The Bottom Line:  The price to quality ratio is wonderful. It will perform as well as those $300 units and costs much less.

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

Look, I am a cheapskate and I usually get the cheapest version of whatever and then I end up getting ripped off. This time was different and so refreshing that for $129 bucks that this unit performed perfect right out of the box!

I got in my car stuck the holder to the window. The holder is a nice one too with multiple points of adjustment so that you can aim it just where you want it. It comes with the dash mount as well. Anyway, it picked up the GPS signal within 5 seconds and away I went.

Well the first thing I did was misread the directions that Mio was telling me took a wrong turn, and got into downtown Minneapolis. Usually at this point, I panic and it takes me 20 minutes to get back to the freeway. The Mio re-calculated the route in about a second and had me on my way.

I love it. It has never failed to get me to my location even if I didn't have the exact right address. I have used the POI function to find gas in several remote areas and I was on the verge of running out of gas. Found the closest one and took me there.

I am not having any back lighting issues that some have reported, but the sound IS a bit low even at full volume. I fixed that with the headphone jack. I just run it into my MP3 jack on the stereo and have directions talked to me from 4 speakers! It rocks.

I recommend this to all cheapskates and deal lookers alike.
