Rice's best friend

I love this stainless steel rice cooker.  I've recommended this to my cousin and he is very happy with his.  We are Chinese, so rice is the staple of our diet.  A good rice cooker is absolutely essential especially in a Chinese household. 

Yes, it gets crusty on the bottom.  Most rice cookers would have crust on the bottom unless you buy one that states it is non stick.  There are many brands out there that would cook rice without the crust at the bottom but not in a stainless steel bowl.  The crust is no problem to us.  It is another Chinese tradition to either eat the crunch crust or to cook the bottom crust with water and bring it to a boil.  It becomes a hardy rice soup.  That's the way we do it at my house.  My dad and brother likes eating that, although I don't really care for it.

We used it everyday for about two years.  One day I noticed when I press the button down, the light would stay in warm but not go to cook position.  So the rice was not cooking.  Then after pushing for a while it went to the cook position. 

Last week, it won't go to the cook position at all.  So we thought we had to buy another rice cooker.  We decided to take our chances and see what's wrong with this rice cooker.  I'm an architect and my dad's a contractor. We unplugged the rice cooker.  Then, unscrewed the bottom and look  inside.  When the button was pushed down, the metals touched together to create a connection, similar that of a light switch.  My dad noticed, when pressed, the metal connection was slightly off center, so he gently push the metal and straighten it out so it was centered.  We closed the bottom and secured with the screws.  Then it started to work and it was in cooking position.  It was a "miracle"! 

We have used rice cookers for years and non of them have been broken so we didn't give up easily on this rice cooker.
