Just gets better each time.

It is hard to say what is the Coen Bros.' masterpiece since they could make a great film in their sleep, but i have to say that I can watch Miller's Crossing over and over and never get bored. The story is pretty simple(at first glance anyway). Alcoholic advisor to Mobsters, Tom Reagan(masterfully played by Gabriel Byrne), is tired of nobody listening to him. He is almost always right but even his boss Leo(Albert Finney) ignores his warnings. Leo is sparring with his italian foe Casper( Polito) and poor Tom just wants everyone to use their heads instead of their emotions. The film goes through double crosses, leading to triple crosses, even though some of them were just made up. The main part of the film..story wise that is..is simply that Tom is smarter then every character in the film and uses his brain to get what he wants...even though what he wants is more endearing than you might think at first. The film isn't as quirky as Raising Arizona, and it doesn't require the brilliant script of Barton Fink, but it is still perfect. Every scene in the film looks carefully constructed. Non living things in the film like music, offices, and shadows become their own characters. I just can't wait for this to come on DVD.
