Midnight by Dean Koontz

Date of Review: Mar 22, 2007

The Bottom Line:  a very good book because it moves right along and keeps your attention.

This book is about people in a small town that are being "changed" into something not human.

An FBI agent who's there to investigate, a writer who has come to the town to find out why her sister died, a young girl who wakes up and finds her parents have been changed into some kind of creatures and believes that the aliens have taken over and an old crippled man in a wheelchair with an exceptionally smart dog, who he can send to town to pick up stuff he needs, are all all characters in this book who are very likable, and end up finding each other.

As the story unfolds, you find out that the sheriff has created an injection that can change people so that they have no emotions and eventually become super humans. After the change has taken place they are then hooked up to computers through their bodies. But something goes wrong and they start to turn into awful beast that are starving for food and they start to kill people and they can't return to the human form after regressing.

Meanwhile the FBI agent, Sam gets into a computer and finds out about the "change" and who will be next, which is how he hooks up with the old man, Harry and his dog, Moose. Later Tessa, the writer and Chrissie, the little girl end up at Harry's house, where they all set out to find a way to get out alive. None of the phones work and there are deputies put there roaming the streets looking for anyone that has not been changed, trying to leave.

Eventually, someone who is the least person you would think of, sets out to make the whole thing come to an end.

This book was very good and I enjoyed it a lot. I hated to put it down. Dean Kootnz did his usual and came through with another good horror story. Really worth reading.
