Nice set of radios
Date of Review: Dec 28, 2007
The Bottom Line: If you like to play with this type stuff or if you have a need for a set of two way radios these are a good choice.
I purchased these at Kmart for $32.00 on clearance. The first set I had to return to the store because they didn't work. The second set however works perfect. I should also add that I contacted Midland via email about the first set and they were very helpful. They returned my email in a short period of time and suggested I return them to the store which I did. I haven't used the new ones a lot but they seem to be well made and the sound quality is clear. These radios never have the distance that they print on the package but I get decent range. These radios require a license to be used on the gmrs channels so be aware to stay legal you must purchase a expensive license to use them on the gmrs channels which are the more powerful of the channels. I really didn't have a need for the radios just bought them to play around with. I can see how they might be helpful for hunters or fishermen or even families to stay in contact on hikes or camping trips or to keep in touch with the children around the neighborhood. In order to get maximum range from these type radios it is suggested you have a clear line of sight, no trees or structures blocking the signal, this might be over a large lake or ocean or other open area. It might be worth pointing out that anyone with these type radios can hear and communicate with yours so they are not a private type device.
