The Bottom Line: Great value, fast, and very easy to use (with the proper software).
Review: I bought this scanner, even after I read the bad reviews on it here, and I have to say that I have not experienced any of the problems the bad reviews talk about. First of all, I also had to buy a new USB internal card for my computer because I had maxed...

Best Scanner for the money

by   gmanmd ,  Mar 21, 2002
Pros: Good quality scans, transparency adapter, price
Cons: Poor customer support, poor written manuals
The Bottom Line: Excellent scanner for the money with speedy, accurate scans
Review: I purchased a Microtek Scanmaker 4800 about 3 weeks ago after using a Microtek Scanmaker X6 USB for almost 2 years. This was a big step up in image quality for the work I was doing.

First off, the Scanmaker 4800 is a 1200x2400dpi scanner with...

by   cadream2 ,  Nov 11, 2003
Pros: Easy Easy Easy. One push gives you what you need. Clear images.
Cons: I don't know of any yet and I've owned it for over a year
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend this for people of all ages. My 6 year old up to my 69 year old father find this easy and elementary. The quality is great!
Review: We bought our Microtek 4800 when our other scanner went out. Just by looking at it, it looked very easy to operate, and we were not disappointed in the least. The buttons are made for dummies. There are five different buttons, all with VERY easy pictur ...

A Lot of Scan for the Buck

by   csott ,  Oct 7, 2002
Pros: Cheap, reliable, small, and fast.
Cons: Slide/Film Adapter.
The Bottom Line: A great deal for the price -- I'd recommend this to someone who wasn't a novice at scanning.
Review: I'm a graphic artist, so I need a reliable scanner -- one with a reasonably high resolution, and one that I can plug in and have it work without a lot of fiddling from me.

The Microtek 4800 has been a dream -- with its small footprint, it...

by   eli2k ,  Oct 26, 2002
Pros: Very cheap, comes with useful add-ons, easy to use
Cons: Power-saving sometimes falters, buttons do not work sometimes
The Bottom Line: An excellent buy; will give you everything you need; extremely easy to install and use; add-on accessories are useful; does what is says it does and at a low price.
Review: The Microtek ScanMaker 4800 is a very good scanner to buy if you are looking for a budget-priced to medium-priced scanner. It has many favorable aspects.

The interface is USB, and that makes it very simple to install. The driver software...

Maybe the best of a bad lot.

by   justicew ,  Apr 30, 2002
Pros: Good enough for displaying scans on a computer monitor. Low price.
Cons: Poor quick reference guide. Poor technical support.
The Bottom Line: Good for on screen display, but don't expect photo quality prints from slides or negs.
Review: I purchased a Microtek Scanmaker 4800 3 weeks ago. I've never owned or used a scanner before, plus I have limited computer knowledge. I figured I'd get my scanning experience without spending a lot of money. Also I planned on using it for on screen...

Great Bargain Scanner - REVIEW UPDATED

by   hi_rollr ,  Sep 29, 2002
Pros: Cheap, Does the Job, Well built, Easy to use, Easy to setup
Cons: Film/Transparency adapter is pretty bad, reliability
The Bottom Line: Good budget scanner, it's not a professional scanner, and isn't intended as such, so don't expect one. Reliability may be questionable.
Review: I've used a lot of scanners in my life. I used to sell them too while I was a consultant to professional imaging/prepress companies.

While the Microtek ScanMaker 4800 is nothing near the quality of a professional level Epson (or professional...

Company Follows Through Finally

by   bfindleyreview ,  Jan 21, 2003
Pros: Quick overview scan. Somewhat easy to use if you are used to scanners. Inexpensive
Cons: Instruction booklet lacking in instruction.
The Bottom Line: Keep all receipts and documentation in case of defects. Otherwise looking for an inexpensive scanner this would be it.
Review: I bought my scanner through a wholesaler and the scanner gave out in less than a month I contacted the company since the wholesaler no longer carried the product. After about three to four weeks I had a new scanner but with a different problem. I...

Try at your own risk

Review: Well, I bought the Microtek 4800 because I am cheap and do not want to pay the price for high quality Kodak Photo CD scanning (which runs about $3 dollars per slide/negative). When I found out that the Microtek 4800 can handle slides and negatives, I was...
