The only surfaces that Microsoft warns against are surfaces that do not have visible detail like glass or a surface that will reflect, like a mirror. My mouse is placed directly on my desk top and performs its duties without any difficulty.

In addition to the standard features (right click and left click) the Microsoft Intellimouse Optical comes with a dial located in the center and two additional buttons located on each side. The additional dial and buttons help you maneuver your most frequent actions with the tap or slide of your finger.

The dial allows you easy navigation scrolling down pages without having to grab hold of the task bar located on the sides. You may also push down the dial and it will automatically scroll you as you move the mouse. Another added bonus for those looking for speedy time online.

The Microsoft Intellimouse Optical has been manufactured for left and right handed people. The software enables the user to choose what function he/she would like for the buttons to perform allowing a person to program the buttons specifically for their needs. First you will dampen a cotton swab with soap and water and then gently swipe it over the sensor. You must be careful to not scratch the sensor in the process. The cleaning is easy and is not required as often as a mouse with the ball feature.

Before I purchased my Microsoft Intellimouse Optical I did my research and checked on the price at Wal-mart and Office Max. The product price was the same amount of $49.95. I would assume that if you watch for sales you might could get it for a little less but you will not be disappointed in the product even if you pay $49.95.
