GO FOR THE OLD D's (UPDATED October, 2003)

by   renewal2 ,  Jul 16, 1999
Pros: Low purchase Price -- great value.
Cons: Diesel fuel only -- plan ahead.
The Bottom Line: Original 1999 review with an update intro. I still say, buy a D but the days when you can are waning.
Review: Below find the first review I ever write for epinions, one of the few writers' spots that has actually managed to survive. If I could change the title I would have it say GO FOR THE OLD D's (UPDATED October, 2003) and it would be about a 1983 Turbo Di ...

What Parsifal would have liked to find.

by   stonehousellc ,  Jan 21, 2000
Pros: Reliable, Luxurious, Built for the Long Haul
Cons: It don't smell to good from the outside - You know - Diesel
Review: I like cooking in cast-iron. There is something about a skillet that weighs ten pounds that gives me confidence. You might not see the logic in that, but most of my cookware belonged to my late Grandmother and has been in constant service for close to...

I am joining the chorus

by   rongould ,  Dec 4, 1999
Pros: Easy to maintain, inexpensive to buy, low cost to drive
Cons: expensive for major repairs
Review: I acquired my 1978 Mercedes-Benz 300D about four years ago. At the time it had (actual from maintenance records) about 150k miles on it and was in excellent shape. I learned quickly why Mercedes-Benz has such a high customer satisfaction rating.

How to have always a "new'250D

by   mbvk ,  Nov 22, 2005
Pros: positive in what you pay for it and for what you spend for maintenace.
Cons: Back seat room a bit narrow if the front passanger sits pretty comfortably.
The Bottom Line: TAKE IT IF YOU FIND IT IN GOOD SHAPE
Review: I bought a used (1991) MB 250 Diesel a couple of years ago and it still looks great. Driving it is a real melody although it has some 230.000 km on its odometer. The driver's seat is comfortable but the back passanger feels pretty shrinked in his/her ...

Want a long lasting car?

by   voke_m ,  Apr 29, 2000
Pros: excellent gas mileage and long life
Cons: not that fast
Review: The 300 D Mercedes-Benz is the most reliable car i own. I have a 1978 and it has over 300,000 miles on it. It has a 5 cylinder 2.5 liter engine. And it runs like I just bought it a week ago. The only things I've replaced are the radio and the gas...

Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing
Review: I bought this fine automobile for $3500 from a local dealer with 174,000 miles on it and I know it will last another 300,00 miles. The best thing about the car is...everything!!!. I love the diesel power plant and the great gas mileage it gets,...

Best Diesel to buy...

by   marcohof ,  May 24, 2000
Pros: 0
Cons: 0
Review: Wonderful statement, "best Diesel". But, it's the truth. No other Diesel engine can run 350.000 kms and more without any problem. I'm from The Netherlands, and a 300Diesel over here means 3.0/6 cylinder. This is
absolutely the most...

Review: Mercedes-Benz has always been senomonis with excellence in engineering. I am a student at Washington State University, and I studying Mechanical Engineering. The feeling by engineering professors and students alike is that this engine is the best...

Diesel-Every thing a car should be

by   vlindell ,  Jul 14, 2000
Pros: almost everything
Cons: expensive if you need major repair
Review: We have had diesels in our family since 1963. I would not drive anything else. It is everything I would want in a car and that is my current 1993 300D. It is safe, exquisite workmanship and it is not what people think of a diesel that is being slow,...
