Product Review

Varieties Available, Sleek & Sophisticated, Solor Powered

by   arthur_jay ,   Apr 16, 2007

Pros:  Nice Weight, Good Look, Keeps Good Time

Cons:  Display takes a little getting used to, harder than most to set.

The Bottom Line:  Good looking watch, keeps accurate time, survives average use, don't use it for anything fancy, don't give it to your grandfather (at least not without setting it first).

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

Author's Review

First of all, the Epinions information is not entirely accurate. Although a white face is one option, there are several types of faces and bands available for this Calibre 8700 watch. Go here http://www.citizenwatch.com/COA/English/browse.asp and type in "8700" to see all eight. My Calibre 8700 has a black face and silver with gold band (a leather strap is also available).

The watch has a good weight, heavy enough for you to know that it's there, not so heavy it hurts to wear all day. Also fits nicely with the metal band I got and doesn't pinch the hairs. The clasp is special, you have to squeeze two triggers to release the safety clasp, so there's virtually no danger of it coming undone inadvertently.

The face looks busy, but it's still pretty easy to tell the time at a glance. The calender is a perpetual "smart" calender that can figure out when February has 29 days and adjust for it automatically. This watch can be used to display information in a number of ways, it shows time with seconds, alarm time (yes, it has an alarm), day-month-year (the second hand will always point to the month), and alternate time zone.

I like the watch because it looks good and feels good and didn't cost a fortune (bought for $240 duty free on a cruise). Although the watch can do some things a digital watch would do, it's a little clumsy to try to use these functions routinely.

The watch is specified as being water resistant to 100 meters (over 300 feet) so there's no worry with washing your hands or even showering with it one. It would probably be fine to go swimming with as well, although then other dangers are present that would make one regret this. If you're foolish enough to actually go diving wearing a watch like this then you deserve whatever fate befalls you.
