why the peanut butter?

I went through high school in a state of rebellion against the norm. I have yet to see Titanic. It never appealed to me, and I'm not a fan of Leo. I never saw a single movie with Brad Pitt. I thought i was doing pretty good-considering that i had just about defied all that was expected of teenage girls.

My best friend suggested i watch Meet Joe Black. She said that Anthony Hopkins was in it, and she thought it was my kind of movie. Despite the presence of Brad Pitt, i rented the three hour movie. And i'm the better for it. I loved it! I've learned my lesson.

There were parts that made no sense to me. What was the deal with the peanut butter? I HATE peanut butter! He should have liked chocolate! But that's pretty irrelevant.

For me, the greatest parts were the few quotable lines, and the connection that William Parish (Hopkins) has to his family. The father/daughter conversation in the hellicopter was great. Every father should give that advice. Next, I cried when William Parish asked his family to eat with him again the next night. Wouldn't we all do that if we knew how short our lives would be? It was all so beautiful the way Parish decided to leave this life. While saying a quick speach-esque couple of words to his guests on the evening of his birthday, he commented of his sixty-five years "don't they go in a blink?" He danced with his youngest daughter to one of my favorite songs of all time. Then the fire works begin, and he knows that he must "end". And what better way than to walk away into the night over a bridge, accompanied by the one and only Brad Pitt?

There is much to learn from this movie. My guess is, we'll see it, and know that this is how we should be doing things all along. But we won't be affected by it. We'll go on just as we did before, and we'll die with regret. If only life were like the movies!

To end, i owe my apologies to Mr. Pitt. My boycot has been lifted. And i give another round of applause to Mr. Hopkins. Another wonderful performance!
