Author's Review
I wasnt sure I needed this nursing stool, so I waited until my daughter was a few months old to use it. As a caveat, I had difficulty nursing her comfortably physiologically until I took her to a chiropractor when she was about 3 months old due to some other issues.
I had been nursing her on the recliner sofa with my feet up, which worked fine. However, I really wanted to be able to comfortably use the glider in her nursery where it could be dark and quiet in order to nurse her to sleep.
Once we started using the stool, I could really tell a difference in my comfort level, which translated to an increased comfort level for her as well. If she wanted to marathon-nurse, it was actually do-able.
I was able to purchase my stool from my lactation consultant, who graciously assembled it for me, so I cant speak to the ease of assembly. I dont think its too difficult, though. She did emphasize that it should NOT be used as a stepstool, even for toddlers. They arent meant to bear weight, so using them as a stepstool can cause them to crack and break. She told me that shed replaced several for that reason, but decided to not do it any more. (Cant blame her.
Id say how badly a mother needs this product depends on the furniture she uses to nurse the baby. For me, it is much more comfortable than the footstools that are supposed to be sold with gliders!
