Great Pump for Occasional Use
Date of Review: Mar 30, 2008
The Bottom Line: Get it if you plan to pump occasionally and want something compact and good quality.
I've been using this pump for 2.5 months since my firstborn arrived. I also used a hospital grade pump (the Symphony) for a few weeks, so I can compare them side-by-side. The Swing is a great buy for moms who plan to breastfeed most of the time, but pump the occasional bottle. I chose this pump because I heard Medela was the best brand, and I wanted an electric pump that was affordable and compact (for these reasons I didn't go with the Pump-in-Style). The Swing has worked out wonderfully for my purposes so far. The pump is plenty strong, even compared with the hospital grade pump, and I can empty one side in under 10 minutes. It comes with only three pieces that need to be cleaned (not including the bottle), and a small drawstring bag for carrying around. The pump part is very compact, and the entire system can be carried around in your purse with no trouble at all. I have even pumped discretely in an airport. I believe that it can run on battery power alone, although I haven't used that function yet. The 2-phase expression function is overrated, in my opinion, but the Swing has a button you can press to bypass the first phase if you don't like it. I just recently became concerned about the use of bisphenol-A (BPA) in kids' products, but the Swing is BPA-free! So far there is nothing about this product that I dislike.
