Dump that Avent pump...Medela is way better!!

I wish I had bought a Medela pump for my first baby.

Instead, I bought a hand pump from Avent because I was not aware how hard breastfeeding could be for a new mother.

When the news revealed that Avent uses BPA in their plastics, I tossed the Avent pump in the garbage.

I never bothered researching a new one because I have a fussy baby, who just turned one who never took to a bottle for even occasional feeding until just recently and I figured why bother now that my baby is 1 already.

I never expected to nurse beyond a year. Then after successive months of illnesses hindering our family, it was never a good time to wean my bottle resistant baby. Then we discovered that my baby is allergic to dairy...all forms of animal dairy.
So now I am into my 2nd month of extended nursing and my baby just developed the “Hand Foot and Mouth” disease she picked up at a local playgroup.

She is on day 2 of refusing all liquids and solids. It is agonizing even dosing her with pain relievers, can barely force a teaspoon of water into her.

By 12 hours into her illness, I was starting to develop red burning blocked ducts. By hour 16 I was in agony and had my husband RUN to the local baby store to buy this pump, even at an inflated price.

This pump is excellent value for money. I wish I had thought to get one as soon as I found out about my daughters dairy allergy, I would have pumped and stored loads of milk for her this second year of her life instead of the odd soy formula bottles she has tentatively taken.
It is very comfortable, quiet enough, is assembled in just moments. I was able to figure it out without reading the instructions. It cleans easily too.

I like the carry bag it comes with so I don’t lose any bits. I find the adjustable suction adequate. I have rather large breasts and I find it fits comfortably (the Avent was very uncomfortable) and much prefer their pumping mechanism.

It has a tidy design, is portable with a clip and a string and has the battery capability if you need to move around with a fussy baby while you are pumping. It comes with extra valve flaps, two BPA free storage bottles with lids, one nipple and cap, a carry case, great instructions, carry strap and adapter.

I am sure this pump saved me from another bout of mastitis. It relieved my swollen and sore breasts in just a few minutes and now that I have it, I am going to store milk for when my baby finally is ready to wean and still have milk that she can drink without worry of her allergy.

Thank heavens for this, I only wish I had bought it when I have my first bout of mastitis when my baby was very small. I would not have had to hand express so painfully.

I considered just buying the Medela hand pump to save some money but I am glad I spent more than double and got this motorized version, the hand pumping is really tedious, even short term. Definitely worth the money.
