Author's Review
I bought this car because I had a 2000 Mazda Protege with little to no problems and thought the inside was a lot better than the Accord or other like cars. iggest problems I have with it are this. The MP# player that Mazda offered at the time was horrendous for anyone who uses mp3 discs. I had then moved on to an IPOD. The factory radio does not allow RCA cables or any input into the radio, so I had to buy an after market face and radio...HUGE aggravation that cost close to $500. the radio other than that is better than decent but nothign to get excited about. I did love the stearing wheel controls but lost them when I changed the radios.
Gas mileage. Going from well over 30 miles per gallon in my protege to barely averaging 20 in the 6 is really annoying. I do get a greatly increased amount of power and size, but way too much reduction in mileage...and I use the good stuff...super unleaded or whatever it is. For some reason I get only 20 miles to the gallon...highway. I don't know why it is so bad. Maybe because of the way I drive, which leads me to my next point.
The shifting I find to be terribly annoying. In automatic, when you hit the gas, the car drops down into 1st gear and then shoots off...problem here is it takes a solid 1-2 seconds to go. So if you are trying to gas in front of someone, you don't just take off. There is a significant delay. The manual is okay...but sometimes I do find myself having to shift twice to move from 2nd to 3rd...it jsut won't move that quickly.
I do have to say that this car does have fairly good performance as far as speed and muscle is concerned, but there is a kick when you punch it...the acceleration is noticeable as opposed to seamless.
Aircondition-For some reason, when you turn on your defrost for your front window, it automatically switches to "outside air" instead of remaining on "inside circulation." This causes a huge problem if you are in traffic and the glass is fogging up and the jerk in front of you is pumping fumes right into your car. So then you hav eto decide choke on exhaust or see out the window. Other than that, the AC works really well. It uses a degree counter instead of blue and red, and I usually don't try to set something at a certain temperature, but more just play with it until it feels good. The AC is very cold...and blows really well if you close down the passenger side vents. I do not like the fact that the floor ir only blows from the inside out instead of from both sides...basically when you're driving and turn on the heat for you rfeet, it will blow right on your right foot and pretty much neglect the left.
It is very roomy and the seats are comfortable...definitely not cramped
Would probably not purchase again
