2002 Mazda MPV ~~ A review by someone who actually OWNS the car

Date of Review:  Apr 21, 2002
The Bottom Line: If you are looking for a safe and reliable family mini van this is it! With a wonderful sound system, changeable seats and side air bags too!
Review: We bought two new cars within a week of each other. The first was the Saturn SL1 which is used for errands and outings where 5 or less of us are going. We are VERY happy with that choice.

The other car is our family car, the one we use...

Can a minivan have zoom zoom? (Updated after driving revised Odyssey.)

Date of Review:  Jul 3, 2002
The Bottom Line: Compact van without compact price. Slightly sharper handling not enough to make up for tight second and third row for most buyers.
Review: If you've read some of my other reviews, you might know I'm going to be facing a transportation crisis in six months to a year. #3 child is due in November. A booster seat, toddler seat, and infant carrier can only fit in the back seat of my current...

2003 MPV LX - not as zoom zoom as they'd like you to think

Date of Review:  Jun 6, 2005
The Bottom Line: Wife loves it unconditionally, I have some reservations but it's hers. Hindsight says we might have looked at some more models but still likely would have bought it.
Review: We purchased our '03 MPV new. It's relatively loaded up - towing pkg, 4 seasons, sunroof... We've liked the interior arrangement, features, and flexibility since it was redone in 2000. However the addition of the larger engine in 2002 was the icing...

Good Family Car

Date of Review:  Jan 29, 2002
The Bottom Line: This is a very good family car especially for long road trips. There might be a few annoyances, but overall it is a comfortable and very reliable car.
Review: The 2002 Mazda MPV LX is a very practical car. It could seat up to 7 people and the back seat folds down onto the car so you don't have to worry about taking the back seat out to make room for cargo space. It has dual sliding doors and the large...

Body and Soul of a Minivan

Date of Review:  Jul 4, 2002
The Bottom Line: An average minivan turns better than average when one considers the well thought out interior. A good-looking van, but the ES is a little pricey for what you get.
Review: Minivans are big business. Chrysler produced the first minivan in 1984, and virtually every other automaker followed suit (As a side note, I will admit upon viewing and riding in the first Dodge Caravan, I did not fully grasp that vehicle?s...

Great Car - but get extended warranty!

Date of Review:  Mar 16, 2004
The Bottom Line: I would recommend it for its excellent value when compared to other Minivan makes and models from this year.
Review: I bought the 2002 ES model about a month ago and I had quite a scare driving it off the used car lot. The transmission seemed to hesitate and then flutter in between gears at around 2,000 RPM and 40 MPH. At first I thought it was a temporary thing,...

Good, but not Great

Date of Review:  Mar 9, 2005
The Bottom Line: Don't miss a test drive. It has enough features to be worth a look. How much the glitches bother you is up to you.
Review: Having owned my '02 Mazda MPV for 2 years now, I think I'm qualified to make some comments.

The car has a leg up on much of the competition in the minivan market. It handles like a sedan, and is a very welcome change when it comes to other...

Just the Right Size

Date of Review:  Apr 12, 2004
The Bottom Line: Love this car -- it's comfortable to drive in and has generous usable space.
Review:
We just purchased a 2002 Mazda MPV ES model minivan, used, with 23,500 miles on it. We've taken two short road trips so far, of 130 and 150 miles. Mileage on the 150-mile trip at a steady 65 mph with gentle hills and level road was 29.5 MPG;...

A great Minivan not to be overlooked especially if considering the Odyssey

Date of Review:  May 19, 2002
The Bottom Line: The 2002 Mazda MPV beats the Honda Odyssey when comparing feature to price ratio, sportier looks to match its sporty handling, and a great safety rating.
Review: After over a year worth of research and with one new addition to the family, we finally caved and bought a mini-van for more much needed room and convenience. We were seriously looking at the Honda Odyssey simply because of its popularity and...

2002 Mazda MPV LX van

Date of Review:  Jan 24, 2008
The Bottom Line: I cannot recommend an MPV with a transmission that breaks down as early as 40k miles AND the dealers/manufacturers knew about it!
Review: I've owned nothing but Mazdas since the late '80s: 1 '87 RX-7 (stolen/wrecked), 1 '89 626 which I traded up for my MPV. I loved that van. Upon purchase, my dealer strongly recommended an extended warranty, I wondered why at the time. With a history...
