2001 Mazda 626--a solid Japanese car for a US price

by   globetrots ,  Feb 15, 2002
Pros: Great car for the price, beats others in head-to-head value comparison.
Cons: Could use more horsepower, seat comfort just average.
The Bottom Line: Can't beat it for the price.
Review: I recently purchased a barely-used Mazda 626 from Carmax (see that review for more info). I had done extensive research into similar sedans, including Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, and Nissan Altima and Maxima. I already expected a better deal on the Mazda...

626: A truly sporting alternative.

by   daniels100 ,  Jul 6, 2001
Pros: Great fun to drive. Excellent fuel economy. A truly sporting alternative to its competition.
Cons: Anti-lock brakes and side airbags are optional equipment.
The Bottom Line: A modern day equivalent of the seventies Alfa Romeo Sport Sedan only you know it will start every day and last 200,000 miles.
Review: 2001 Mazda 626 LX

The first Mazda 626 landed on U.S. shores in 1979 as a rear drive coupe or sedan. That car, powered by a 2.0-liter pushrod four lifted out of its contemporary Mazda pickup soon became a favorite amongst auto enthusiasts. Car...

Japanise version (other countries)

by   desden1842 ,  Jan 6, 2003
Pros: all
Cons: IF NON USA VERSION there is no complaints
The Bottom Line: Highly recommended if not USA VERSION
Review: GREAT CAR very pleasant to drive and mantain. Good price and performance.
The trans. problems I read about , seems to be for those USA MADE cars. I have tested 2 626 japanese version (for other countries) GB2D 2.0 AT - GE10S1 for 200.000 kms in one...

2001 Mazda 626: Great Family Car

by   marscobra ,  Jul 31, 2001
Pros: Sleek design, controls within easy reach, good steering control, roomy interior.
Cons: Level of road noise is too loud, cassette player an extra option.
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this mid-sized sedan to the average person/family who would like an enjoyable car that gives them a comfortable ride. This one's a keeper.
Review: When I went looking to purchase a new car, I had a few basic features I was looking for: Automatic, A/C, Cruise Control, Power Windows, Power Locks, 4-door. I wanted enough elbow room not to feel cramped when driving, and enough leg room in the back to...

by   svcadvr3 ,  Nov 26, 2004
Pros: Reliable, economical
Cons: Road noise
Review: I have a 2001 Mazda 626LX with the 2.5L V6. For a midsized vehicle it does just fine. It gets good fuel milage, it has been a very reliable vehicle, has good "pep", and is not too bad on long trips. It does have alot of road noise, and just doesnt ...

Mazda's Bland 626 - The Roadiem Writeoff

by   Joubert ,  Apr 15, 2001
Pros: Solid family sedan. Safe, with some performance issues
Cons: Not a bargain.
The Bottom Line: For the money, an Accord or Camry gives roughly the same performance.
Review: Introduction

I often try to edit my Epinions by considering them as I think a respected writer in that category might. Thus, I won’t post a movie review if I wouldn’t be proud to have Grouch read it nor a music review that I...

Remember the 626?

by   aljay89 ,  Jan 1, 2002
Pros: Clean, sporty styling, very comfortable seats
Cons: Interior noise, price
The Bottom Line: A sporty, comfortable ride, but you need to find a good deal to avoid the relatively high price.
Review: After the birth of my son, I needed to get rid of my trusty but cramped coupe and get a sedan with room for the diaper bag. Lured by the low financing offers flooding the market, I set my sights on a 2002 Nissan Altima. That dream ended when the tester I...

Mazda 626: A Very Fine Car.

by   mikolainis ,  Apr 17, 2001
Pros: Elegant design, intuitive instrument layout, less $$ than Accord and Camry.
Cons: More road and engine noise than the competition. 4 cyl. lacks power.
The Bottom Line: Great, stylish car for less money than Camry and Accord. A little noisy, but otherwise excellent. Go test drive it and see what I mean!
Review: I recently began the search for the classic "family sedan", and started shopping. The contenders, you certainly know them: Camry, Accord, Mazda 626 and VW Passat.

We test drove them all within a week, and I'm pleased to report the the Mazda...

No zoom zoom

by   mkaresh , top reviewer in Cars & Motorsports at Epinions.com ,  Apr 27, 2001
Pros: Thoroughly adequate in all areas except driving excitement
Cons: Boring, lacks "zoom zoom"
The Bottom Line: The current 626 is a bland, thoroughly middle of the road family sedan. If you're looking for "zoom zoom," you'd better look at another Mazda.
Review: When Mazda redesigned the 626 back in '93 and a six became available for the first time I wanted one. I can't exactly say why, but something about that car really appealed to me. It just seemed "right," with clean, precise styling in and out, a ...

Ok For the Price, Not a Camry

by   amary ,  Jul 31, 2001
Pros: Looks good, glides down the highway
Cons: Small interior, jerky in stop and go traffic
The Bottom Line: I do not recommend this car for use for street driving because it is jerky at speeds lower than 50 mph.
Review: My 626 was the right car for the right price, but it does not have the smooth ride or large feel of my Camry. I wish it had a bit more pep and was more comfortable. It does not enjoy climbing the smallest of hills and jerks when you first shift into...
