experiment 626

My husband and I purchased this car this past June. My husband took one look at this Satin Black 626 with Chrome accents,and Mr. American Car only, fell in love. The car was owned by one owner and had 64,000 miles on it but it was very clean. After about two weeks we had to have one of the O2 censors replaced. That's when we found out that we had a one of a kind on our hands. Turns out that Mazda/Ford had an experiment. They placed about 600 I-4 2.2L motors in about 600 cars, including the 626, protoge, milenia, and Ford probe between 2000 and 2001. Yes I said 2.2L not 2.0L or the ever popular V6. Now we are finding that we can't buy any parts for this car in the U.S. we have special order from over sea's. But that's not so bad, because my husband is now getting this one of a kind gem ready to place into some of the local import shows. We went to a show about a month after we bought the car and saw a 2003 Mazda6 with the same motor in it. Turns out that the owner had to special order that motor from over sea's and pay out the "wahoo" for it to be shipped as well as the cost of the motor itself. When my husband told him that we had the same motor in our 2000 626 he didn't believe us so we had to show him. Over all I must say that this car is not only fun to drive, it's almost apart of our family now. Whenever we have a few extra dollars on us we put it into the car. So far we have tinted the windows with a chrome fade tint, placed a chrome tribal Mazda sticker on the back window and a banner on the windshield that says "experiment 626" after our son's favorite cartoon movie Stitch. I also bought him a new set of rims for it that are satin black with a chorme lip for christmas this past year. We are hoping to get it show ready by summer. The car get's alot of compliments, (even some from a cop that pulled my husband over for speeding!) Great car!! I just wish I could find someone else who may have the same motor!!
