Potential buyers of a 1992- 1995 Mazda 929 beware! On the outside it appears to be a well designed auto. Nice lines, well appointed leather interior, and loaded with usable options. You can pickup on of these beauties for a reasonable price. The problem is the initial price is just the beginning. I recently purchased a 1992 929 for $5,600 it has 152,000 miles on it. That sounds like a lot but I have most of the maintenance records on the car "which should have clued me in I guess". At 98,000 miles the engine had to be replaced, at127,000 miles the transmission had to be rebuilt, and at 96,000 miles the rear end had to be replaced. The person I bought the car from only took the car to one place for tires and maintenance since 11/15/95 the car had 69,575 miles on it. From that time until one week before I bought the car which was 8/15/99 He had spent $3467.33, plus $2,600 for the transmission rebuild plus $2,700 for the engine replacement. And that is just what I have receipts for. Well silly me thought well if all this stuff has already been taken care of the car should be solid for a good two to three years. Boy was I wrong within the first month I spent over $500.00 in repairs mostly little stuff. I thought well this is not so bad if it takes care of everything up front. Well guess what the transmission went out again and a rear end mount is bad there goes another $2,500. So adding all these numbers up this car has had at least $11,767.33 worth of mechanical work done on it since 11/15/95. I need to end this review on a good note because that's the kind of person I am. The car when operating properly is a real pleasure to drive it handles well it's quiet and very peppy but unless you have a boat load of money for maintenance, and just got to have one go for one of the other luxury cars out there.
