Pros: Great car for a first-time driver.
Cons: Slow going up hills.
The Bottom Line: This car is pretty nifty and reliable! First time drivers, be on the look-out for a Protege!
Review: As a first-time driver, getting my first car was a big experience for me. I wanted something of average size that was reliable and would be fun and easy to drive. I had always wanted a Ford Escort, but when I saw the Protege at the lot I went to, I...

Pros: Quick, nimble, fast, fuel efficient, reliable 1.8L SOHC 5-speed manual car.
Cons: Small for a family of 4 plus two lapdogs. Some bodyroll on hard/fast curves.
The Bottom Line: Find a stickshift that has not been ridden more time than Seattle Slew and buy it. It will never let you down.
Review: Where do I start? I've owned my 1994 Protégé base model since it was new. Yes I said base. 1994 was the only year they made a trim line lower than the DX. (1.8L SOHC, 5 speed manual, more basic inside trim, black bumpers, no stereo (but strangely, ...

Pros: still runs and drives pretty good even with alot of miles.

Cons: interior is ugly, exterior is ugly, loud noises, but thats ok...
The Bottom Line: I do recommend this car despite the bad things, because it still is good car, just not pretty or comfortable or with any luxuries at all. haha.
Review: I bought my 1994 mazda protege when i was 15. it was $800, it was ugly, smelly, dirty, noisy, and was a stick shift which i didnt know how to drive. but i got my license and i learned. I bought the car when it had 196,000 miles. i am now 18 and the car ...

Pros: Gas mileage, good power, very roomy, great styling, very reliable
Cons: Engine compartment small
The Bottom Line: An excellent car for the money. Very reliable, easy to take care of, really just an all around nice small sporty car.
Review: I bought this car in the fall of 1997 at the age of 17. It was my first car. It's now 2002 and I'm 21 and still have it and I never plan on getting rid of it.
The car had 85,775 miles on it when I bought it. As I am writing this, she has... |

Pros: I love everything about it
Cons: Friends won't work on it because it's foreign
Review: I saw this car on a Toyota used car lot. I had never even heard of it. I was just THINKING about buying a car. I told a friend of mine that I wanted to buy a smaller car. I was driving a Chevy Caprice and unintentionally barrelling over whatever...

Pros: Mechanically reliable, roomy, good viability, excellent MPG
Cons: No cruise. Overdrive says hold rather than off/on. wierd! 13 in tires.
The Bottom Line: A good ride at a reasonable price! Compares to a Toyota Corolla!
Review: I have just purchased a 94 Mazda Protege DX for a soon to be driving neice. This 4 dr economy automatic driver comes with 75K miles and a DOHC 1.8 liter 4 bagger. A phesant hit the grill in MT and it needs replacement. Tires are shot and there is a sto ...

Pros: Reliability and gas mileage
Cons: Only one I can think of is trunk door tends to drop
The Bottom Line: You cannot find a more reliable compact car
Review: Bought my 1994 Mazda Protege new. Just hit 90,000 miles and it runs excellent. I am so confident that I will have it for quite a while, I just put new 80,000 mile tires on it. The standard transmission provides plenty of zip for this car. Previous...

Pros: Extremely reliable, comfortable, peppy, lots of features for the price (fully loaded LX).
Cons: Can't think of one.
The Bottom Line: This is the best car I've ever owned. It has been from Texas to Kansas and back many times, and has never left me stranded.
Review: I bought my '94 Mazda Protege' LX in '96 with 36,000 miles on it. It's got good power for a 1.8 liter 4 cylinder, at 125hp. it's comfortable and roomy, and the LX is fully loaded with cruise control, power sunroof, power mirrors and windows, central...

Pros: Cheap, Very Reliable, Fun to drive and Great for families.
Cons: Trunk leaks in mine and not very sporty looking
The Bottom Line: If you want a reliable, fun and fast car I definitely recommend this car to everyone especially if you have a family with children.
Review: I have a gray '94 Protege and have had it for about 3 years and I have only had it serviced twice. I had a new radiator put in and a new clutch, but that was only because I wanted it done. I have a standard and I have raced a Honda Civic and beat it...

Pros: Low price, no maintenance
Cons: None
Review: I have owned 17 vehicles. My 1994 Mazda Protege is the best vehicle I have ever owned. To this day, it gets 30 miles to the gallon. I have had nothing but routine maintenance to do to it. I have put nearly 130,000 miles, and never been left stranded....
