Cooking with noise...
Date of Review: Jun 29, 2008
The Bottom Line: All the good, cannot outweigh the fact that the fan is very loud. I do not recommend this due to the noise factor.
One of the appliances that I least looked forward to replacing was our over the range microwave. The model we had was over 20 years old, so we felt that it was time to get a new one. Looking at microwaves is not a fun job. It took us 3 weeks to settle on one. We decided to purchase the Maytag MV1153, along with a Maytag dishwasher at Home Depot.
The first attempt to deliver the microwave was horrible. Once they took it out of the box, it had looked like someone kicked it in on the side. Two days later, they delivered one that wasn't kicked in. It was set up, they tested it, (which I should have been there for), and left.
The first time we used the microwave, it sounded like a chainsaw was started. IF you used the fan if you were cooking on the stove, it sounded the same. We called Home Depot, who promptly sent out a technician. The installers did not install the cooling fan properly. Once he re-installed the microwave, it was somewhat quieter, but still loud enough you have to speak up to be heard when it's on. Very annoying to say the least. It is the noise that washes out most of the good on this microwave.
It does it's basic job really well. It cooks evenly and thoroughly. There are quite a few presets on this microwave, so at times it seems like you never have to type in a cook time yourself. It is a little loud when it finishes, or the timer goes off, but that's a good thing when you are just in the other room, intently watching a movie.
The fan, despite the noise, does a good job of taking the smoke from the stove away and outside. The light is bright and illuminates the stove very well.
Even though it cooks well, and the fan does a great job pulling the smoke out, doesn't compensate for the loud fan. If you like to talk in the kitchen, I would stay away from this model.
