Maytag's Service Is Horrible

by   stefanie1541 ,   Jul 9, 2007

Pros:  It's attractive. If I wanted a washer for a decoration, it would be great.

Cons:  It stopped working after two days and Maytag's service is horrible.

The Bottom Line:  Don't buy Maytag. Their service is horrible.

Overall Rating: 1/5 stars

We bought this washer and had it installed on a Saturday. The following Monday, it stopped mid-cycle. The machine had no power. We thought we tripped a circuit, but there was power to the outlet. No matter what we tried, we could not get the washer to turn back on. Because the machine had no power, it wouldn't drain and is full of water. I called Maytag’s service number. They gave me the name of two companies who service Maytag appliances in our area, but I had to call them myself. Maytag uses independent repair companies to service their appliances. I called the first company and was told that the first service appointment I could get was in two weeks and the service window they gave me was from 8am to 5pm. I called Maytag back three times and only after being transferred around did they find me a different local service company. And again, I had to call them myself and beg for an emergency service appointment. They were able to come out that Friday (six days after it was installed). When I booked the service appointment, they asked me what was wrong with the machine. I explained it to them, in detail. I took a vacation day to wait for the repair person to come. When he came, he asked what was wrong with the machine. I explained it to him. He said if the machine isn’t powering up. it could only be one of two parts so he would order them and have to come back when they received the parts. I am not sure why they bothered asking me what was wrong with the machine when I booked the appointment if they weren’t going to come prepared to fix it. I now have to take another vacation day to wait for the repair person to come to our house again. And now I’m being told that it will take 7-10 business days to receive the parts. The service company suggested that I call Maytag to see if I could have the parts expedited. After being transferred around, the woman I spoke to said they could send a note to the parts department requesting that the parts be sent sooner, but they have no way of contacting the parts department directly. As if the parts department doesn’t have a phone! Why they can’t call the parts department and ask them drop the parts in the FEDEX is beyond me. I am writing this as I am on the phone with Maytag. Twenty-nine minutes and counting and no one can make a phone call to have the parts sent ASAP. The machine is still full of water and my laundry room smells like mildew. The way Maytag treats its customers is completely unacceptable. The advice I would give is don’t buy Maytag. Their service is horrible. By the way, Maytag’s front load washers have the worst repair history of all front load washers according to Consumer Reports. I wish I knew before I bought it. I hope this saves someone from making the same mistake I did. I will never buy a Maytag appliance again.
