Ice20 Circuit Board Failure

Pros: Nice Looking Frig and happy with inside space

Cons: Don't buy this refrigerator until they correct the circuit board problem.

I purchased my Maytag Ice20 French Door refrigerator/bottom freezer in May 2006. March 25, 2008 I needed to call Maytag/Whirlpool service as my front control panel had started flickering very rapidly and the ice cube maker opening and closing uncontrolably. The main circuit board had failed and the total outrageous cost for the part with 15 minutes of labor was $ 491.00. INSANE!!! I am sending a letter to the Maytag/Whirlpool CEO in hopes of satisfying this predicament. I did not have an extended warranty and don't mind paying occasional costs associated with service but this board appears to be a problem and there should be a recall on same. Especially when the cost for repair on a 1 1/2 year old product is almost a 1/4 the amount of whole appliance. The repairman didn't mention anything about getting a surge protector so I don't know if it will happen again. Nothing else in my home ever had this problem.
