OK, despite negative reviews of the Maytag Neptunes, I decided to take the plunge. I initially looked at the Whirlpool Duets, but they were too deep to fit in my laundry "closet". The Neptune was a perfect fit. Additionally, since my piping is opposite of most, the Duet's would have been awkward to use, since their doors are not reversible like the Neptune's.
This machine uses so little water, it is amazing that it can actually clean. It holds as much as my old large capacity top-loader, but also easily holds thick queen size comforters. This machine is really incredible. It is very quiet. It "knows" how much water to add, it sometimes adds additional water as the wash cycle continues. It knows if the load is unbalanced and goes through a "routine" to re-balance. It adds one minute to the time and rotates the drum back and forth to balance. So far, it has worked flawlessly. The high speed spin is somewhat noisy, BUT MUCH quieter than my old Whirlpool toploader. This machine also has an internal water heater, which helps to maintain the correct water temperature during the wash phase of the cycle. There is absolutely nothing bad that I can say about this machine. I hope that the reliability will be there.
Don't hesitate...you will absolutely love this machine. I have also purchased the matching dryer and between the high speed spin of the washer and the efficiency of the dryer, clothes dry in an incredibly fast time.
Update 01/02/05:
Well, I have had this machine over a year and it is still working flawlessly. I am still extremely pleased with this machine!!
