Product Review

wouldn't choose this one again

by   biggieDbigD ,   Mar 13, 2003

Pros:  Super capacity

Cons:  No "give" on the price; constantly has to self-balance; twists pant legs into unbelievable knots

The Bottom Line:  I would recommend this machine to a friend, but I would also let them use mine to ensure that they are comfortable with this type of machine

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

Author's Review

Easy to use, nice looking and seems to do a great job of getting clothes clean... but I see quite a few drawbacks. But I would guess that I might have these same complaints of any front-loading machine.

My biggest gripe is the way my pants come out of the washer. The legs are just twisted, twisted and twisted some more. The more pairs of pants present, the worse the problem. They can actually end up knotted together. I spend time ironing permanent press slacks that I used to just hang up to wear. The dryer simply can't remove all of the embedded wrinkles.

Next is about "self-balancing." As the tub is on it's side, the clothes are all on the bottom side when the washer gets to the spin cycle. The tub starts to pick up speed and the clothes are just supposed to magically distribute themselves along the wall of the tub?!?! No. There are many speed ups and slow downs with a lot of whoomp, whoomp, whoomps in the mean time. The spins cycle almost always causes rocking, walking and noise out of a reportedly "quiet" machine.

I am sure that this machine will last for decades. It is well built and nice looking. I simply was not familiar enough with the frontloading design to know the drawbacks of the style.
