A quiet cool night in the bedroom!
Date of Review: Jun 24, 2003
The Bottom Line: Looking for a nice quiet small room A/C, go to your Home Depot, and get this Maytag A/C
I brought this A/C at Home Depot after looking around for a nice room A/C and that has the highest SEER rating, this unit has a 10.7 SEER and for $119 I thought this would work best for our bedroom since it don't get cool back there, where our main A/C is in the dining area.
This unit has a remote where you can control the fan, Temp, Mode of Cooling or Fan only and on and off. On the unit it has a display area of what temp you have it set at. Fan control, Power, Cycle, and Timer Control (can be used to turn a/c off when your not home, and back on later.. and we never used this yet) I like the digital set since the temp setting is very accurate! I wish it shows the room temp, but that's okay. The temp respond is very good, and by far better than the turn knob type we have in the living area.

The Auto setting will only control the fan speed, not cycling the fan when it's needs to be on. I kinda wish it had it. But the fan keeps the air moving and filtering it as well. (A help for my allergy) When you have it on "Auto" then fan will run low if the room is with in 4 degrees of the setting, and high if it's over 4 degrees of the setting. That's nice to have if it can't keep up on low, and kicks on high to cool down faster. We run this unit at 75 with Auto all the time, and it has never kicked in on High.. it stays with in 1 degree, and our bedroom faces dead west, so it does get the sunlight in the afternoon and the bedroom door is open so it's cooling the bathroom and hall way. I'd say it does a good job cooling! We may only used the remote a couple of times to turn the temp up, or turn it on when we lost power. (it will not turn on by itself when the power comes back on when it goes out)
The unit has a simple pull out filter that can be easly washed in the sink. I don't use this filter since I have allgery problems. I use another type of filter that remoes 98% of the dust and pollen out of the air.
I wish we had a unit like this in our living area of our Apt. But since the A/C in the lving area is part of the Apt, we can't do much with it.. The A/C in the living area is fairly loud.. It's a new unit put in last year. At least it's not in the bedroom, otherwise I know for sure I won't be able to sleep!
