Author's Review
Due to limited space in my home for a washer and dryer, I was on the market for a compact size and stackable washer/dryer combo. The Maytag MAH2400A seemed to be the perfect sized front loading washer for me measuring 23 1/2" wide, 24" deep and 33 1/4" high. The MAH 2400A is also a great looking washer, with its stainless steel drum.
Features
(As listed on Maytag's website - www.maytag.com)
TurboClean wash system - cleans without an agitator; washtub gently tumbles clothes through a pool of detergent and water
Commercial-quality stainless steel wash basket - tough enough to stand up to everyday laundry; includes lifetime warranty
Self-cleaning lint filter system - prevents lint and dirt from reentering the tub and redepositing on clothes
No agitator - less wear and tear on clothes, so they look newer longer
Flexible installation - fits flush in tight spaces, under counters or stacked to take up even less floor space
IntelliFill water level control - automatically matches water level to load size
22 custom cycles - designed for all types of loads and fabrics, from extra-dirty to extra-delicate
Compact exterior - washer measures just 23 1/2" wide, 24" deep and 33 1/4" high; with 7/8" adjustable leveling legs. Control panel adds 2" to depth
Usage
The washer is fairly easy to use. The control panel is straight forward in selecting the many different options. The panel consists of buttons to select 5 wash temperatures, 4 spin speeds, 3 soil levels, and a dial to select 10 pre-set cycle types.
This high efficiency washer uses very little water to wash. Its Intellifill water control system puts just enough water in the system to get the clothes wet. It seems like it doesnt use enough water in the system, but the clothes come out clean. High efficiency detergent is recommended for this washer so that not too many suds are created.
The washer itself is fairly quiet most of the time. It does not spin very fast when its going through washing cycle. Its when the washer decides to rinse and do its last spin cycle when it gets a little noisy. In the high speed spinning, it starts to sound like a jet engine
you start to hear gears winding up and a high pitched whine begins.
My only complaint is that it seems to take a long time to wash clothes. A regular load of clothes takes almost an hour to complete. The washer seems to do a lot of thinking. The washer spins for a minute or two, then stops for a while, and then spins the other way, gets rid of water, adds more water, and continues this process. It seems like it may do some unnecessary steps, but the engineers that designed this washer must have some reason for the washer to seemingly change its mind about what it wants to do every couple of minutes.
Conclusion
The Maytag MAH2400A looks great, does a descent job cleaning, and saves water and energy. Even though this is a small washer, I find that it holds enough clothes for my laundry needs.
I would recommend this washer if space is a problem, but if space is not an issue, I would search for other larger models.
