Maxell Cd 330 Cd/Md To Cassette Adapter
Date of Review: Apr 3, 2008
The Bottom Line: This cassette style adapter for my iPod and more is easy to use, sounds great and less than $20. All that, I like!
Because I don't have a new car with a direct port in which to plug in my iPod, I am happy two of our cars are old enough to have cassette tape decks rather than CD players. The reason? I can play my iPod directly through the cassette player rather than using one of those FM transmitters that was always sounding like an AM station out of frequency range. I did go out and price a couple of automobile radios that had adapters for the iPod. My wife and I agreed they were too expensive to bother putting in these two cars that have seen their better days. The cars we own have a radios and cassette players with a relatively good sound system. That I found out was all we really needed. I had already purchased a Monster Cable iCarPlay cassette adapter for my car and it sounds great but, we still needed something for hers.

We saw the Maxell name on one of these adapters. I knew Maxell has been around in the recording business for years and years. The price seemed good and thought we would give it a try.
The name mentions CD and MD. My wife can play her CD player right through the system. My daughter was happy because she can play her Mini Disc player through it and pops is happy because his iPod can play through it too. Mrs pops also likes that I have all her CDs on pops 60GB player.
The idea of how it works is simple enough. The cassette adapter looks just like a regular cassette tape but it has a wire on it. That wire is attached to the MP3 player in the headphone jack via the 3.5mm male mini-plug. The cassette is inserted into the tape deck and that's it! Very simple indeed.
In the time we have had the adapter it looks like it did on day one. I don't know the kind of connections on it. My Monster cable adapter noted it has 24 gold minijack contacts for optimum signal transfer I don't see gold on this one and I'm sure the other is probable better rated but for my untrained ear the sound comes through very well. I am very pleased with it and so is my wife. My wife did have a no-name brand that gave a hiss that was distracting. No such thing here.
It took a little time to get the max quality sound by regulating the volume of the mp3 player and that of the cars sound system just right.
I also like that the adapter is small enough to tuck away in the console of the car to be hidden and yet close enough for play. The 3' cord allows for the MP3 player to be operated from a good distance away and be set down in a secure place.

Even though the 90 warranty is long over we have been comfortable with the Maxell name on this Maxell Cd 330 Cd/Md To Cassette Adapter. I particularly like that I can set up a play list and take off. I have also watched movies while driving (not while at the helm) through my iPod. The sounds are excellent! Much better than on my tube TV at home.
This system is easy to use sounds great and sold at a very practical price.
