Max Payne - Matrix-like crime-fighting

by   t13monkeys ,  Aug 1, 2001
Pros: Awesome new graphics engine, photo-textured, bullet damage, matrix effect.
Cons: crappy ending, annoying dream sequences, tedious enemies, and stupid difficulty setting.
The Bottom Line: Although flawed, Max Payne offers some new gameplay to an overplayed 3d-shooter genre, and some amazing new graphics/slow motion/and level design.
Review: Max Payne is so-far the most innovative 3d-shooter yet. Developed by Remedy and released by God Games and 3d Realms, this game pushes the limits in today’s standard 3d-shooter. It features crystal sharp graphics, movie like in-game cinematics, and some...

I could swear Max Payne is Neo from the Matrix at weekends....

by   paulyoungotti ,  Mar 10, 2002
Pros: Bullet time. Dark, violent gameworld & gameplay. Brilliant graphics. Superior sound. Replay value.
Cons: Too bloody hard. Lifespan. AI (at times). Not subtle.
The Bottom Line: Max Payne is a videogame version of a John Woo film. That says it all i think.
Review: Max Payne is the gaming version of a John Woo film. Or possibly The Matrix ie. An ultra cool, slick, and stylish game that oozes dark humour and class. Developed by Remedy, Max Payne hit the PC in 2001, boasting several...

Max Payne, Great Game.

by   lorinsilver ,  Aug 16, 2001
Pros: Amazing visuals and sound, plays like a dream, stunning effects straight from The Matrix
Cons: A little short, needs a VERY powerful computer
The Bottom Line: Aside from a couple of minor cons, this is a magnificent and visually stunning game that – if your 'puter can handle it – belongs in everybody's collection.
Review: For three or four years, Max Payne was one of the most mysterious titles in development. All that was known was the storyline: your wife and kid were slaughtered three years ago, and you went from average cop to bitter undercover agent in the New...

Max Payne the Original

by   gamefan007 ,  Jul 26, 2004
Pros: Graphics, sound, several "twists" in the game.
Cons: The gameplay and somewhat average A.I.
The Bottom Line: The game still rules.
Review: Note: Max Payne contains graphic violence, strong sexual themes and strong language. Max Payne by Remedy and 3d Realms the blockbuster hit, that ushered another era of gaming, the antihero crime fighter, and another era of violent gaming, where the ...

Max Payne: DO believe the hype!

by   fm_hunter ,  Sep 20, 2001
Pros: Simply stunning graphics, very good gameplay, a solid game all around!
Cons: Intense system resources required to really enjoy everything Max has to offer.
The Bottom Line: You've heard the hype, now see it for yourself. Play it on a STACKED system and turn up every detail option. AMAZING!
Review: Introduction
I play a decent amount of computer games. Not near as much since I’ve gotten married and had a son, but I still get my licks in, albeit usually very late at night! FPS (First Person Shooters) are one of my favorite game genres,...

Max Payne lives up to the hype

by   RudeDawg ,  Dec 24, 2001
Pros: excellent graphics, great story, not too hard, very fun
Cons: no multiplayer, pretty short, need a powerful PC
The Bottom Line: If you own a powerful computer, this game is a must because of its quality graphics and excellent storyline.
Review: Max Payne has been in development for what seems like forever. But the final product was worth the wait. Max Payne sports amazing graphics, a unique third person camera angle that doesn't get in the way, and an engaging story. Although similar in some...

This game is killer.

by   shocka ,  Jan 24, 2002
Pros: Excellent idea becomes an excellent game. Truly cinematic, entertaining and, most of all, fun.
Cons: Controls are a little iffy at first, but then it's all cake, baby.
The Bottom Line: It's my weapon of choice. Lock and load, baby.
Review: As I stepped onto the train, I knew this wasn't going to be my day. I was Bogart in an old black and white film; but this one was going to be sprayed with red. As the train came to a stop, the trouble began.

The cop stepped out of the train...

So fun and real that you WILL feel the payne!

by   amiquilena ,  Jul 26, 2001
Pros: Extensive game play, incredible rich graphics, revolutionary blend of genres.
Cons: No Multiplayer Mode, High Requirements for decent game-play.
The Bottom Line: A game that will captivate die-hard fans of action shooters, and perhaps will disappoint the online players breed.
Review: I will start my review -I never do- with a short info about the company itself, since they for me have a great but uncertain future in the industry...and they deserve the space.

Developer

Taking a lot of time to develop this...

Matrix, Quake, and The Die Hard Trilogy had an Orgy, and here's their hybrid.

by   Patach ,  Nov 9, 2001
Pros: Superb Graphics, Gameplay, Bullet time concept is great!
Cons: Stupid CLiche Plot, high system requirements
The Bottom Line: Get this game, if you got the powerhouse. You will not regret checking out the Max.
Review: 3rd person shooters had been given the reputation of pure crap now. Thanks to the works of horrible 3rd person shooter games such as Tomb Raider. But that's besides the point. The point is, 3rd person shooters have been given the butt end...

Cinematic Genius

by   r_easton ,  Oct 23, 2001
Pros: great graphics, story.
Cons: no multi-player huge system specs
The Bottom Line: This a step closer to the ultimatly realistic game.
Review: Max Payne is a very original game, which combines fast action, amazing graphics and an involving story. Some of the special effects are as good as you would expect from a modern action movie. It was in development for four years and very little, apart...
