Just plain fun!

If you're looking for just pure fun entertainment, this is it. Whether or not you ever watched the t.v. series, you'll enjoy this movie, and laugh all the way through.
Mel Gibson plays the con artist Brett Maverick, who himself gets conned throughout the movie as he muddles his way through one comical situation after another.
James Garner, who played the original Maverick in the t.v. series, is excellent in his new role...whatever that role is supposed to be! A con artist in his own right, he and Mel Gibson are constantly both helping and hindering each other with their sarcasm and "advice" to each other.
Jodie Foster plays the heroine, a gambler who, along with Brett Maverick and several other colorful gamblers, is making her way to the ultimate high stake poker game aboard a steamboat.
The unmistakable attraction between Foster and Gibson make for a charming romance, in spite of their sarcasm and apparent "dislike" towards each other.
Surviving stagecoach attacks, a wagon train full of women, "wild" Indians, and even a hilarious, rather odd "man-hunt" the unlikely trio finally ends up on the steamboat for the big game. The movie takes a surprising twist as the game climaxes, and the ending may even surprise you...a little bit!
Speaking of Indians, lets give credit to Graham Greene who portrays an Indian friend of Maverick, though he, too, is a con artist. He does an excellent job of giving us many laughs during his short part in the movie.
If you like a movie that is just plain fun, this mixture of characters in an excellently written script is just what the doctor ordered. Enjoy!
